Driving the famous A3 from Italy or Salzburg to Munich to the North, Frankfurt, Ruhrgebiet, Netherlands or whatever, or the other way round, just south of Würzburg, take a break at a really genuine, cozy, high-quality Franconian restaurant! Take exit Würzburg-Randersacker and go to the village of that name; the Spiegelberg is easy to find and there is parking close by. A very short drive, but you are as far from the Autobahn as can be. As has been said here, excellent Franconian cuisine in an ambiance that people always hope for but then there are more tourists than locals. Not here! Great old guest room, great wines, great dishes. I would recommend especially the Zwiebelfleisch which I anyw...
If you're visiting Wurzburg take a cab the 3km to Randersacker and visit the Spielberg. This is a family run restaurant with traditional German food but with enough variety for even this vegetarian! My husband loves the tartar... first time he had it cooked (I know, more of a hamburger) with onions. Next time he tried it raw with raw onions and capers. The Bratwurst, potato salad (best ever!) and dumplings are all also big favorites. The mixed salad is fantastic. There are so many local wines to try, but don't worry. You can sit for a while, enjoy a few drinks as you enjoy the company because you will find more locals than tourists at this historic place.
Wonderful small German village restaurant for a pleasant local dining experience in a family owned establishment. Great German food from the region to include pork roast, steak, schnitzel and sausages. As we traveled through the area, this restaurant was a true highlight. Many of the staff speak English and although the menu is in German, it is easy to select a dish and pair with great local wine. Very friendly and welcoming restaurant. We visited twice on our trip and were impressed upon each visit.

If you are looking for an authentic pub where many locals go to, you should go the Spielberg to enjoy good food, good drinks and good atmosphere. Should you not find a free table, it is common to share one with other guest. If you don't dare asking, ask the staff to ask for you. I bet you will spend a pleasant time there.
