My cousin and I stepped in to get a quick not too expensive lunch in this pretty village in the middle of nowhere in the toulousaine countryside. At first you have no idea if you are in France or Spain and the happy mix of both cultures work in this provincial town restaurant. Downstairs frankly looks like someone just closed down the night club and bar, but upstairs is the lunch service restaurant for all wakes of working life. You have to picture a DIY very arty bullfighty scene, but completely bearable to my straight laced ex military relative. And if you get the picture, the end result is a lunch place with an edgy sense of humour. And by gum it works. Of course we couldn't resist ordering the duo of foie gras I mean hello, we were in the Gers! and it was just enough and slightly too much but perfect. The jam they serve it with is like a raspberry coulis, an outstanding one. The light fixtures from the ceiling and on the walls are either buckets or baskets; the seats are like sculptures and car seats or bus benches. Honestly worth a detour for the decor itself. Unpretentious freestyle. But damned serious cuisine when it comes to fresh ingredients. Not DIY at all. Bravo!
