After walking the length of Rue Saint-Jean viewing many cafés that fell short of inspiring, we turned toward the River Saône and found Le Rocambole, and were delighted with our choice.Ann had the plat-du-jour which was pork, served with mashed potato and salad, tasty and very good value. I spent more on the Rocambolesque burger, intrigued by the bacon cheese red onion and dried tomato, which proved excellent accompaniments to the two wonderful beefburgers - so much better than what the popular chains provide. It was washed down with Peroni, and served by staff who were pleasant and efficient. It felt more relaxed than some of those other cafés we had walked past. The toilet was clean, nicely decorated and easily accessible. We sat outside on the tables facing the square, choosing to sit next to the café rather than nearer the square, where the pigeons were were awkward. We were well pleased.
