While having a stroll along the beach at Marseillan-Plage we arrived at the mouth of the canal connecting the Thau Lagoon to the Mediterranean, le Grau de Pisse-Saumes. As it was a lovely spot we decided to have a late lunch at Le Crabe on the first floor of Hotel Le Richmont just opposite the Port Authority (« Capitainerie du Port »). The modern hotel building looks quite ugly but the restaurant offers shady outside seating with nice views on the harbour. One of us tried the fish in Noilly Prat sauce, a local specialty using a vermouth made in Marseillan since the 1850s. Unusual but nice. The plain omelette with a mixed salad was less satisfactory. Because of a pork allergy we had asked for the ham to be left out of the ham omelette on the menu. Instead of telling the kitchen staff - the kitchen was just around the corner and most customers had already left - the waitress ordered an ‘omelette with ham without ham’ on some electronic device. Of course things went wrong and the omelette had to be replaced. It had a strange taste and didn’t seem to be made with fresh eggs. In August we also didn’t expect tomatoes in a French restaurant to taste like sad Dutch tomatoes. With a pitcher of rosé wine, half a litre of Vittel water and coffee we forked out 45 euro. Quite a lot in view of the quality of the food. Nonetheless we spent a pleasant moment at Le Crabe because the service was very friendly and we enjoyed the view on the boats and the wine.

Not been back for 5 or 6 years and told went down a little during that period, but maybe Marina Bay ( see seperate review ) made them reraise their game. Nicely located at the mouth of the canal overlooking the Marina. Excellent, friendly and English speaking staff. Their fish soup beats anything we ate anywhere on this trip and with set menus from Euros 11.80 at lunch and 18 at dinner it offers excellent value. Definitely recommend if you in Marseillan. we did breakfast , lunch and dinner :-)

We had heard that Le Crabe had great seafood so we enjoyed a dinner there during our stay at Hotel Le Richmont.Service is very good - the owner? is English speaking and they do have an English menu.We had the Boullabaise for two which looked a little daunting at first, brought to the table as the soup and a variety of whole fish on a tray. However all was well, as it was expertly filleted for us.A big meal, but very good.Wine prices were reasonable - all in all, well worth a visit if you are in Marseillan Plage - it certainly enjoys a wonderful view of the marina and the sea.

We stayed in Meze and only did a shorter stop in the Marseillan Plage. To us the place felt like a standard tourist street transported from the spanish riviera with all that goes with it.It was nice to see that Le Crab was aiming for a more sophisticated evening (the building itself was not though). We sat down outside which has a good protection from the ocean winds and with a good scenery (the port).Very helpful staff and most likely the fastest service we've ever encountered. Without rushing the customers, they just eliminate the waiting periods which is good if you're dining late with kids. They were very experienced in catering children by the way.The food experience started out great with the starters. Shrimp cappucino and oysters. Then it collapsed for main courses, we were expecting excellent sea food but got really over cooked fish and rather boring side dishes. They served Dorade with a reduction of red wine and beef stock. Really weird to us. Deserts were not something I would recommend much even though it has alot to do with taste preference. Ice cream were served with a chocolate sauce but the sauce didn't taste anything of chocolate. I had a tarte tatin which was very soft and the taste of fruit disapeared in some over caramlized coating that was not possible to remove.Felt like they missed on several details in the cooking on the main and deserts, hopefully a temporary mistake.Taking a nice stroll along the port and over towards the beaches after the restaurant is highly recommended!

walked form the town to la plage there is a good market there and on the beach the restaurant has a great terrace overlooking the sea, as it was very hot the shades were put out for us, sadly the local smokers turned up and sat next to us, the owner invited us to sit inside, but still with the view, where the temp was 21 it was nice not to be too chilled by the air con.the food was excelent and the courses were well spaced.we will go back if in the area again.

We have visited this hotel and eaten in its restaurant "The Crabe" for quite a few years. In fact this year 2009 we stayed there in both June and September eating each night in The Crabe and we still needed more than the 17 nights we stayed there to sample the full menu. The food is great - plenty of fish and seafood on the menu and it is cooked very well and presented in an attractive manner. It is best to reserve a table as it is very popular. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. It is one of the hotels I look forward to returning to each year. It is in a good location for a super beach and there is so much to see and visit in the area. What I also like is that each year we go we discover that the owners have made more improvements to the hotel. They are very proud of it and rightly so.

Visited today, Sunday Lunch time,23rdSeptember 2009 with my Wife.We both had the Gourmet Menu at 21€ each.My Wife had the Capuccino de crevettes, which she enjoyed immensley I had the local Thau Oysters which were excellent and made the drive well worth while( last week of the French Holidays) We both chose the Seich (cuttlefish) cooked on the plancha, it was soft , melted in the mouth! delicious . I had the local Rose which was very very smooth. My wife was driving so it was water for her. Looking out on to the yachts basin and the sea it makes the "Crab" a very romantic setting.Avove the Restaurant is the Richemont hôtel which offers an Ideal getaway on the beach. There were quite a few customers having a take away Fish Platter.
