We had a lovely meal, beautifully prepared and presented. However the super food was let down by the ambience of the place. It was like being in a time warp. There was only one other family at 8pm on a Thursday and it reminded me of restaurant suppers with my grandparents as a young girl. Admittedly it was out of season and we may have been a bit early for the french! I would imagine a group of friends or a busy night mught make all the difference. The staff were very kind. Excellent wine list with good local wines as well as the pricier Bordeaux or Burgundian wines. I will visit again as the food was lovely.

We visited Chez Pierre's for lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is friendly but also quite intimate. There's also a bar which is worth a visit. It feels like a place that local people frequent, and that adds to the appeal. The menu for both lunch and dinner was interesting and good value.

I hate to give Chez Pierre only three stars. The food deserves at least four stars. It was exquisite. When I walked into Chez Pierre I immediately got the feeling I was in a retirement home restaurant. The colors, the decor, the smell all seemed to indicate a past era eatery that kept its look to cater to an 80 yr old crowd that might get upset if anything in their favorite restaurant changed from 1972. The problem is... none of those guests were there. In fact, other than a young couple, the restaurant was empty at 8 PM on a Saturday night. One of the people in my party surmised that all of their frequent customers had passed on....In any case we were a party of 3 adults. The only person we saw and who greeted us, served us all evening just didn't seem to want to be there. He wasn't unfriendly and the service was efficient but lacked warmth. And for some really strange reason he sat us smack dab next to the young couple. I mean if we were seated any closer we would have been in their laps. With the rest of the restaurant totally empty (and it stayed that way) all night, this was simply odd.The food was truly remarkable though. All three in my party are foodies and we each enjoyed everything that was on our plate. The food was innovative and perfectly prepared. I had the scallops (coquilles st. Jacques) which were amazing. I followed with a fish prepared meunière style which was really good. The desserts were equally good.I really wish Chez Pierre would work on improving the ambience. Candles on the tables, new decor.. But if you don't care about those things and want some great bistro food then Chez Pierre should be on your list of Pau restaurants to try.

Well, the title says it all. They do accomodate "larger" crowds (we were 8), but they don't know how to handle them. Between the time it took them to hand out the menus, take our order, and finally bringing out our drinks, we were there already for 45 minutes. The food came 20 minutes later, and I wish it hadn't. You can get better food at a better price at every sandwhich stand, and it won't take over an hour to get it.

Chez Pierre is best described as being 'just around the corner' which gives it a certain intimacy for the locals yet there exits the distinct possibility a tourist could easily miss it and that would be a shame. While it is just out of the way, It is also close by to many area hotels and also to Chateau de Pau. Fortunately, we found it. The restaurant is a multi purpose facility. When we arrived a congenial gathering was warming up with a reception in the pub area off to the left. The group was furtively whisked away up the wooden staircase to a private salon on the second floor while we were given the seating of our choice near a window overlooking Rue Louis Barthou in Sale Maxime, the main dining room on the ground floor. The local Pau-Pyrenees wines were plentiful and came recommended and half bottles were available which cozily suited us but there were plenty of outstanding Bordeaux wines available, too. A mostly fixed price menu was offered but a la carte is also possible. Two main highlights from our meal included sea bass which was perfectly prepared and presented. The contrast between the moist flavorful flesh and the crispy crunching skin created the perfect synergy while the plush risotto was creamy yet hardy, a nice balance. If you want to dine with the locals, Chez Pierre is a good choice.

I have read in our guide book that it was the best. I can confirm that it is the best we have been in Pau. Food is nice and presentation perfect. Will be back!

Our daughter did a study abroad program in Pau and we joined her at the end of her experience. One of her professors recommended this restaurant as his favorite. We were pleased to come. During the week, they have very good value menu options which did not apply on Saturday night, so it was a bit more expensive. However, every item we ordered was absolutely delicious, prepared, presented, and served well. The atmosphere was lovely - different rooms have a different feel. The easily accommodated our group of 5.
