Just been here for lunch. Superb shady setting amongst the chestnut trees & water fountain. Excellent service & lovely to have a such a pleasant waitress with a smile. They don't do a 'menu enfant' but will happily offer some kind of meat with either chips or pasta. The set menu, 2 courses for €18.50, was excellent. A very enjoyable family lunch, I'm sure we'll be back next year.
We went to Les Marronniers as a group of six ladies, as locals we had often thought the restaurant looked very nice and so decided to try it. Although it was April, it was a chilly evening, not only outside but also inside the restaurant! When we asked for a smaller table as two of our booked group had to pull out at the last minute due to illness, it was clearly too much trouble for the waitress, although she did return after a few minutes later and set-up another table for us. However, her sullen attitude did not improve all evening - surely a smile would not have been too much to ask for! Additionally, we found the food (we ordered a wide selection from the tapas menu) to be distinctly average, so we will definitely not be heading back there again!
Despite the usual French countryside insistance of " non parlais Anglais" (when will this nonsense ever stop?! ) the waitress had a change of heart and turned out to be quite helpful.The food was very good, and the atmoshpere pleasant.The set menu was good value for money, and the wines reasonably priced.
If you want a a real French experience with great food. This restaurant was recommended by a local for lunch. It was full of locals, the waitress spoke no English but was very friendly and went out of her way to help us with the French menu. Our meal was delicious and good value for money, portions are generous.
I didn't think it was really worth spending a lot of time on this review so I've summarised in bullet points. 1. Do you have a reservation? There was no-one else in the place. 2. The bread was stale 3. The waitress had a face like a wet weekend 4. Starters/Tapas were overpriced 5. The table for two was too small 6. No water glasses provided at any point so we took them from another table. 7. Monkfish was ok but not worth 23 euros. 8. Wine was reasonably priced 9. Desserts were very good as was the coffee 10. Did I ask for the bill? I might have wanted something else. 11. Would I go back? 12. I don't think so. 13. There are many other better places in Pezenas to spend your money.
We dropped in to Les Marroniers quite late and at short notice. The restaurant were really helpful in accommodating our party of 8.Good atmosphere and very pleasant environment. Water feature could be heard trickling when noise subsided.The menu is brought round on a chalk board, difficult for a party of 8 to see (and translate) at once so when the waitress came to take our order we were not ready. We just needed more time. However service was efficient, courteous and prompt.The menu offered a small variety of tapas and a fairly limited carte menu. The limit, I think, is imposed by one chef cooking everything to order within view in kitchen. Do not be put off by this the food was excellent, good portion sizes, fresh and very tasty.The garden terrace setting was attractive and really made the evening.I got the feeling we were a bit long winded and the restaurant wanted to close down for the evening but no attempt was made to hurry us and we felt quite welcome.
