Here we had one of the best dinners of our month-long trip, loaded with flavor. (Don’t be deterred by the plain dining room and paper placemats – the cooks know their job.) They offer a menu at €21.90 with five choices in starters, mains and desserts. We enjoyed a lotte (monkfish) with bacon cream sauce, a steak tartare, and for dessert an excellent apple Tarte Tatin. Loire wines are available at reasonable prices. We liked the rosé de Loire (half bottle €7). For beer lovers: Leffe on tap. They also do a roaring business in pizzas and crêpes. It’s open on Sunday and Monday evenings, when other restaurants are closed.

I loved this restaurant. Unique inside with old safety deposit boxes and the old safe. Dont let the bars on the downstairs windows put you off! Rooms divided up and we were in what was obviously the old boardroom/manager's office... very friendly people dining around us and a good atmosphere. Both our crepes were excellent. I had a charcuterie version and my husband one with foie gras.. The bill was very reasonable for two people. Easy and free parking in the square too. Very friendly manager... We will definitely return here on our next trip.. already bookmarked on the map :-)

A tiny restaurant tucked away in the village of Saint Calais, with superb food which was very good value. We were lucky to get in on a Saturday evening; booking would be advised. I recommend the beef carpacchio, and the dessert crepe with pear and hot chocolate sauce!

We stopped here for dinner one evening and made the mistake of ordering the entrecote. It was literally just fat and gristle - the worst steak that I have ever had anywhere, ever.

This converted bank offers a dining experience in a unusual setting. A visit to the toilets takes you via a safe door and deposit boxes. This was a lunch stop over on a car tour so we enjoyed a Galette which was very filling. Great food, good service and value for money.

Only one word to describe this place - WOW! It is a converted bank, with many original features - tiled floors, barred windows, safes, keys ... and you've got to visit the toilets just so that you can walk through the room containing the safety-deposit boxes! There's even a table made from the old glass counter screen, and the wood from the counters has been used to make dividing partitions. And the food ... YUMMY! Prepared in an open kitchen, there is something for every appetite. We had a simple Galette for lunch, a full 3-course meal for dinner. Advertised as a "Creperie/Brasserie", there is a wide choice of dishes. Not fine-dining (you can visit the owners' other restaurant, the Hotel d'Angleterre for that!), but EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY. Great, friendly service in an often overlooked town (30km from Le Mans, and I suppose the name makes us English think of the Channel port!). La Banque even offers Takeaway Food. Take your Galette to the lake-side and eat in peace with the mallards!
