a ramshackle stone building on the side of the road. we would have missed it if we had not looked for it on the basis of the great reviews. simple formula, simple but delicious menu, perfectly cooked meat from an open fire set in a wall. service. excellent, and both the owner and waiter could not have been engaged anymore. the area was right along more open fields so we had a big bull for business, the smell of the masquis and a super sunset view over st florent.
around 10 km from Saint-Florent, a place very easy, with a great view from the restaurant. Dinner is just outside. a man band owner makes an incredible job management customer, cook, order, serve and friendly entertaining customers. dish is great: nice and...healthy salad, good roasted meat, delicious desserts, supported by a great patonies of the wine. tree beautiful and sweet cats are part of a great crew. great experience! by simone and chiara.
this small restaurant in the garden of philippe rey’s house is located on the mountain road from st florent (on the right side exactly 15 km from there on the way to calvi) and is located near the hamlet of casta. it has fantastic sunset...Overviews about the haute corse desert and probably has only 25 covers and a large wood fired outside grill. philipe makes everything (maitre d, waiter, koch, raconteur) with great energy! a limited menu of rustic (and excellent) laundry, quiche or melone can be followed by perfect smokey entrecote, lamb-suck or sanglier, by grill with some fries and sweet. local wine through the glass, bottle or pichet. quite as he does it, it is a secret, but it does not seem frenetic or chaotic. accounting- essential (we saw that several traveling is turned away.) he switches the winter I think, so check them before they turn off. they go before he decides that he can continue and buy them a pot of his home preserved, as they leave content and amazed.
The first thing to say is that this resteraunt is 15km from Saint Florent on the D81and NOT where tripadvisor location takes you!Secondly this is a small roadside establishment and as such does not take cards. The menu is simple but delicious Chicken...skewers, lamb cutlets, entrecote steak or cuts of boar cooked on an open wood fire(for this reason it is closed if the wind is high). Huge rustic (home grown) salads also available. The location is beautiful and the owner (chef) and waitress charming both going out of their way to make us welcome and the food plentiful 4 meaty lamb cutlets with proper thick cut chips with salad for me the others had chicken and steak. Total bill for all 3 plus wine was 70 euros (again a reminder to take cash) This is well recommended and worth the trip.
En-route to St.Florent from Calvi, My wife and I just happened to come across a little signpost high up in the hills ,after a bend and it was advertising food. We decided to stop and check it out , to our delight !!! It was...one of the best decisions that we made on our 10 day trip to Corsica for the place is a hidden Gem and a must do for any foodies . Initially we thought that we had read the directions wrong as you find yourself driving into someones garden complete with Chickens on one side and a beautiful rustic house with just a few tables and chairs under the canopy of what could be mistaken to be someones private terrace and outdoor cooking area. But that is just the start of the charm of this place. We spend more time than we expected there but wanted to stay longer . The food was out of this world and straight from the Chef Owner's garden. We felt as if we had come to visit a friend . We chatted with the Chef and his cats and ate, while time stood still . We can not recommend this restaraunt highly enough . You will be totally amased at the delightful charm of this restaurant. The drive to and from it is spectacular !!!! But that is Corsica !!!!
Traveling back from a day in St Florent to our accommodation in Calvi, we decided to stop at this restaurant. Sitting in what had been and was the owner's back garden with his chickens at the end of it, we had a terrific view of...the countryside, valleys, surrounding hills, mountains and a fantastic sunset marvellous. This is not a sophisticated restaurant but a real country gem. The proprietor, owner, chef, waiter and presumably everything else, Philippe Rey, apparently had been at one time a chef in Nice. Complimentary tapenade was followed by entrecote steaks cooked over an open barbecue and the lamb dish turned out to be a fantastic neck of lamb dish with pasta. Good puddings and very acceptable wine were part of the meal, a meal we are still talking about with pleasure. If you like rustic natural french food, this could be the place for you.
