"Sofa hut, or Canapée hut – this by name is the Hochbichl hut at the Ofterschwanger Horn in the Volksmund. She owes her name to the collective affiliation of the hut economist for sofas. Full of enthusiasm, he organizes more or less new, at least still useable sofas, and transports them to his hut to set them up outdoors in front of the hut. Over time this has resulted in a colorful collection of different canapées. Because of the originality, but also because of its location directly on the downhill path towards Ofterschwang, I prefer to go to Hochbichl Hütte when I am skiing in Ofterschwang/Gunzesried. So too, when I used the quite suitable snow conditions at the beginning of March again for a ski trip to the Ofterschwanger Horn. Unfortunately, however, the weather was not the very best quite windy and little sun. This day was not a problem to find another place on one of the sofas. On beautiful days with a lot of sunshine, however, it must be good luck to get another sofa seat. In most cases, there is only a free place on the beer benches. There are no places in the cottage itself. Only a cultivated wood shed is available. Visually no beauty – the wooden shed is probably used as a storage place if the hut is not managed, and a few suspended targets of a shooter club, and some stuffed forest animals and birds don't really give the shed any charm. The cottage offers the simple dishes to be expected such as various soups and stews, various sausages, pommes etc. When I was there, as a daily dish, you had a meat broth with liver spets and two calf dumplings on offer, the whole for 3,60 EUR. Just the right thing for the lunch break when skiing, plus a wheat beer for 3,00 EUR. The soup came in a large cup, with a thick slice of black bread. I suspect that the dumplings should not be formed on the hut, but that everything should come from a local butcher and be ready to be delivered. Anyway, it tasted very good. Conclusion: whoever is looking for an original cottage is right at the Hochbichl Hütte. The prices are quite favourable (I have no complete overview of the prices of the other huts at the Ofterschwanger Horn, but the Hochbichl hut should be at the lower end of the price scale), and what I had so far was always perfect. For skiers with the super-comfortable ski boots still of advantage: the food and drinks are ordered at the counter, the drinks can be taken along immediately. However, food is brought to the table or to the sofa, so you do not have to balance a tray."
