Such a mixed experience. The wine was lovely and the marinated olives/vegetables at the start were lovely. Then I got the “bacalao/cod” stuff peppers which were very good as well. Then arrived something which I wish I could remember the name of (I ordered everything from the soya and seitan section so you might be able to figure out what to avoid from my description that came in a tomato/onion/paprika sauce with these sausage slice/meatball-style pieces that was insanely salty but still had decent flavors underneath. I couldn’t finish it though because it was just so unbearably salty. Then I received the worst—these horrible anise-tasting “pork” flat patties? They were practically inedible. It said on the menu that they contained anise (licorice flavor but I wasn’t expecting it to be so miserably overpowering, I couldn’t finish one. My friend tried it and just from smelling it it was too much for her and she couldn’t bring herself to eat it. And after my mouth felt extremely cool (In a gross way like I’d chewed gum! because of all the anise, it was like taking a shot of sambuca! Such a mixed bag. I mentioned to the waitress, who was great by the way and super friendly, and she said it was based off of a traditional Spanish dish but it was genuinely impossible to eat. I definitely regret getting it. TLDR: Good: great rioja wine, service, hamburger, olives and pickled veg, and pimientos rellenos con bacalao. Bad: Over salted sausages pieces in tomato sauce and horrendous anise seed tasting patties. (one started with F from the seitan section, the other with M from the soy section Overall: not worth 20€, although it could be considering the three dishes and two glasses of wine! Wish they would improve.
