Decided to give this coffee shop a second chance as found the owner to have a terrible attitude the first time we visited. Figured she may just have been having a bad day…WRONG! Went in today to be barked at that it was only coffee cake available, we only wanted a coffee. Directed to a specific table even though there was only one family in the cafe at the time. Directly outside the toilet so when the the lady with a child wanted in or out I had to move each time to allow her. Coffe was weak and just like a cup of hot milk. Couldn’t even finish it. I was in Montrose again a few days ago and I just had to stop in for some early lunch. Like me last visit, I found myself enjoying a fine cup of tea. I also had a filled roll. Ketchup was on hand, as usual, with all the regular condiments. Excellent choices of puddings were offered along with a wide variety of biscuits and cakes. The staff were polite and attentive. Other customers certainly seemed to be enjoying their food too. A couple also had their dog with them and the owner made the 'special guest ' welcome, having canine treats on hand! I went in to buy a mug of soup to take away. I asked politely to use the toilet and was told no, it is for sit in customers only. I am (very obviously) 7 months pregnant and asked if they could make an exception seeing as I had paid for soup. The server checked with the owner and I was told no. When she passed me I asked her directly, and she aggressively said no again and that there is a sign on the door stating the rule . I hadn 't seen the sign on the way in but noticed it on the way out. Very rude and inconsiderate, it doesn 't hurt to be kind to someone. Won 't be going back.
We visited A Cup Above twice this week. We found the staff to be welcoming even though we had our dog with us. We had very nice cakes, scones and coffee and Juno had a big bowl of water and a biscuit. The cafe was clean and there was a good choice of home baked goods. Plant milk was also available which was a plus. We would definitely return.

Went for lunch today, have been there 5 or 6 times. Firstly their cakes are amazing! Staff and owner are always friendly and welcoming. Food is always hot and freshly made. Had soup, chicken/bacon burger and a pinini salad. All was amazing and tasted great. Well definitely be back. Look forward to seeing you again, soon.
Being served out of date food and will not go back , the food was minus 0 and was going to complain but there was another customer complaining about there order so I just didn’t bother but I will avoid this unorganised shame of a place
We struggled to find any coffee shop in Montrose. Eventually we had to go in here and noted that it was very quiet. The coffee cups were dirty and the coffee tasted awful. Only accept cash too.
Very friendly and accommodating staff, cute wee cafe, soup was delicious! Home baking looked lovely but we were too full! Lovely wee place for a spot of lunch.
