Before finding this Patisserie-Salon de the' our Sunday in Verdun had staggered from one disappointment to another. First the battlefield tour was not running (contrary to earlier advice) and then the tour of the citadel broke down for the day just before we boarded! Finally, as we returned on foot to the commercial centre it commenced to rain so you can imagine our spirits were at a bit of a low ebb. How a country which can run such a superb railway system can also be responsible for such a variable tourism industry is one of life's minor but frustrating mysteries. Not particularly wanting another tourist bistro experience, despite their pretty riverside location, we decided to try this lit...
We were visiting Verdun and stumbled across this place and glad we did. Not only did we have coffee there in the morning....we came back for lunch because it looked so yummy! Upon entering Verdun, we stopped at a Tourist Office. There were two in the same place but on either sides of the street. We stopped in both, one was more helpful than the other not only giving us directions but telling us about a free car park. Once we parked, we walked across the river into town and just on the right....this lovely café. Two gentlemen appeared to be running it. The atmosphere was simple but ever so lovely. This pretty little patisserie, bakery and restaurant is located just off the river down a pedestrian side street. The chef/patissier is so welcoming, friendly and accommodating. We went around mid afternoon for coffee and a snack. The food was so delicious that we ordered a Tourte Lorraine for the next day, which we collected for our onward journey northwards. There is an extensive list of celebratory foods and festive specialties available to order. High recommended for an authentic French experience.

Ensuite, que vous profitiez de viennoiseries, de pâtisseries ou de déjeuner, vous serez ravis des saveurs et des textures proposées. Nous ne voulions pas prendre le petit-déjeuner à l'hôtel et avons trouvé ce lieu près de la rivière. Nous étions 7. L'hôte ne pouvait pas être plus accueillant ou attentionné et la nourriture était superbe. Nous y sommes allés tous les matins pour le petit-déjeuner et aussi un déjeuner. Une découverte vraiment fantastique et nous recommanderions tous vivement une visite si vous êtes à Verdun. Les gâteaux et viennoiseries sont tous excellents.
Super endroit avec un personnel sympathique. Nous étions sept et ce n'était aucun problème pour trouver des tables, etc. On s'est bien occupés de nous. La nourriture était délicieuse. C'était tellement bon que nous y sommes retournés pour le déjeuner. Pas cher. Je le recommanderais à n'importe qui. Les gâteaux à la crème sont à tomber par terre.
Nous nous sommes arrêtés tôt le matin avec nos trois petits enfants. Nous nous sommes assis au soleil et avons apprécié leur petit-déjeuner composé de confiture, de croissant, de pain, de beurre, de café et de jus d'orange. Le propriétaire est super sympathique et attentif. Service rapide et souriant. Nous avons adoré.
We have just left this pâtissier after a delicious breakfast. Everyone in A la Tour Chausée worked hard to accommodate all seven of us, including four children. The meal was perfect and delicious, just what we were looking for. Thank you to all the staff in this delightful pâtissier! Réservez une table maintenant
Rather than take breakfast in our hotel we opted for this traditional cafe. Located in the old town just a minute from the river. Good call ! Very friendly/welcoming staff good coffee croissant we should have taken some of the delicious pastries for lunch ! Recommended
