This is my favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in our area. It’s not your typical Gyro place at all. It’s a real experience and the food is excellent. I judge a good Middle Eastern restaurant by the quality of basmati rice that they buy, this rice is some of the best I have ever eaten. Light, fluffy, very long grained yet form kernels, and spiced with something delicate that I cannot name, but is addictive. The last time I was there, I splurged and ordered the lamb chops, and I was not disappointed. It was more food than I could eat, and so I had to take some home to eat the next day. Poor poor me. If you haven’t eaten here, you’re missing out on one of the best restaurants in southern illinois. The food is delicious. There are vegetarian options for those who prefer it. I had the lamb, my son had the falafel. We left with that feeling you only get when you are full and you know the food you ate was made with care and high quality ingredients. I hope enough people appreciate how lucky we are to have a place like this is southern illinois, because I would be devastated if Aban’s were to close. Give it a try, seriously. I’d never been to this restaurant and really didn’t know what to expect. I asked the server to kind of explain and he was very kind and explained the menu well. The menu is simple in a good way. No hot food is good or bad depending on your preference and mostly lamb and chicken with a few beef options served with rice or bread and humus. The lamb with rice was very good and I plan to go back to try multiple dishes. If you’re a little skittish when it comes to “ethnic” food, this food will not scare you a bit. If you haven’t been to Aban’s Kitchen yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice. This place has a wonderful, cozy environment with the friendliest staff in the area. The lamb is amazing and prepared in a few different ways. I’ve tried every single menu item and I’m happy and satisfied with all of my entrees. This place is truly something special and I hope it’s legacy continues for a long time. Réservez une table maintenant
I love the falafel sandwich. The kitchen staff are talented and everyone who runs the phones and the food are polite and professional. Lots of seating and a huge parking lot right across the street. Definitely a restaurant I recommend to friends, so you should stop by.
