We went to the brasserie for Sunday dinner on recommendation. I must say I was disappointed. Going into it is very beautifully decorated, but it lacks atmosphere. Almost all other diners had afternoon tea. We ordered beef with a selection of sauce and peppermint. We also ordered jam pork. Food came and we asked for English mustard and apple sauce. The waitress came back with French mustard. When asked, she went back to check and said there was no English mustard and no apple sauce. Beef was drowned in Gravy, no peppercorn sauce and no cauliflower cheese. We asked for cauliflower again. When it arrived, it was rock-hard and looked like it was naked in the microwave. This was our first visit and we enjoyed the food very much. The ambience within the restaurant itself was also good. We had a window table but our view was totally blocked by a marquee directly outside. It was dark, gloomy and not attractive to look at. However we did not let this spoil our enjoyment and your service was excellent. We had the set three course meal and although the original bill listed items individually it was soon corrected. We would very much like to come again, preferably when the marquee has gone.
We had a lovely meal yesterday at Wivenhoe House they made it really special as it was my husband's birthday so had a table already decorated which was really nice.. The food was excellent and everyone wished my husband happy birthday.. Staff were All very attentive.. Andrew had a plate with Happy birthday written on it in chocolate with strawberries and honeycom.. Will definitely be back.
It's all right, except for problems in the kitchen. Reception and service was excellent, but who needs to buy the beef in the roast for better quality. The four parts we had were all hard and crisp. The Yorkshire pudding was also overcooked/burned, which is all a real shame, as the location and service was great.

Great service, food was fantastic, I had the monks fish special, probably the best fish dish I have ever tasted, though next time I would ask the chef to leave the crystallised lemon peel out of the dish, as I like my sweet left for the desert, will definitely be returning
Nice place to eat. A good choice in the menu and everything we had was really good. The staff were helpful and attentive and knew what the dish of the week and soup was without having to ask anyone else.
4 of us had a delightful meal, the meal itself was very tasty, they catered for my gluten intolerant friend and all of the staff were very friendly.
I discovered my passion for the Lebanese cuisine in this great restaurant on Cowley Road.
