The last time I came to Alba was 2013 my freshman year of college, and although I spent 4 years in Des Moines I never made it back. At the time I don’t think my palate was refined enough to appreciate the good food I was eating, so I am so glad I came back tonight while back in town! I love a menu that changes seasonally and Alba is dishing out some major flavors. I had the fritters which were crunchy, salty and the soy aioli that comes with them was amazing. For a larger plate I highly recommend the NY strip stroganoff. It had the perfect tang that a good stroganoff should have, the steak was perfectly tender and the crispy shallots and sautéed mushrooms added a good flavor punch. I sat at...
I had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant. The ceiling is adorned with old doors, likely intended to help reduce noise, although it was still quite loud. This wasn't a major issue for me. The server was attentive and personable, making the experience enjoyable. We visited during Des Moines Restaurant Week, so Alba offered a three-course meal. The drinks and food were crafted with great attention to detail. The food was impeccable and had a touch of elegance. The dishes were so beautifully presented that they were almost too pretty to eat. I highly recommend this restaurant!
The restaurant was nice, as an Architect, I’m maybe a bit too critical of the space. However, the overall experience was amazing. I went solo as I was on a work trip, and the staff made me feel extremely welcomed and provided great recommendations. My old fashioned was made well, the salad was fresh and crispy, just the right amount of dressing, and the stroganoff and Brussels were so dang good. You HAVE to save room for dessert as the bread pudding was some of the best I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and make sure you get yourself to Alba while in Des Moines.
We noted a couple things from our visit at the end of May 2022. 1; the pile of boxes behind the bar where they sat us, and 2; the lack of a server (although labor issues seem to be a problem everywhere these days). When the food finally came it was thewrong order. Given the time it took them to bring it, we accepted as is. To be fair, the quality of what we did get was verygood. Hopefully they can find a better place to store the boxes, but would love to see them again once all the labor and supplyissues get better. Réservez une table maintenant
We had a grand time with the restaurant week three course menu and choosing wine. Our service was timed perfectly between courses so we could savor every taste bite and wine. Every food item was delivered hot from the kitchen, presented beautifully. we were given time to enjoy this restaurant has a wonderful list of wine selections both by Glass and by bottle. Consistently good food fresh and seasoned appropriately. minimalist deco. Attentive but not hovering service .
My favorite restaurant! Food is always cooked perfectly and they have a menu that constantly changes with new exciting options. Their unique sauces and sides really make your entree special. Staff is always warm and helpful. The art and doors that hang onthe ceiling along with the large windows are wonderful! Can't wait to go back!
