REAL ITALIAN AT IT'S BEST!! I had a craving for authentic Italian cuisine, so I decided to take a step back into time to a restaurant that I used to visit in the 90's and it was as if time had been standing still. The love that Alfio's La Trattoria puts into each and every meal is like no other and each bite leaves you wanting more. I could have gone to a chain restaurant, but I wanted the best and that is exactly what I got. After all, they have been providing the best of the best in Italian cuisine for well over 60 years and that is just something that no chain restaurant can compete with. My chicken Alfredo was just as I remembered... pleasing to the palate and the perfect harmony of nood...
I ordered the mussels and the calamari. Both dishes did not taste good. Calamari tasted like it had been fried in chicken grease, and the mussels tasted extremely fishy. When I brought this to the attention of my waiter and the owner of the restaurant, they commenced to attempt to discredit my complaint. He brought out a plate of raw seafood to show me what they used to make the dishes and also questioned the last time I actually had these seafood dishes. The owner became extremely rude towards me and did not treat me as a valued customer. In fact he asked to me leave the establishment. But of course not before giving me my bill in which I was about to spend almost $80 in the establishment....
I have ordered carry-out pizza from Alfio's twice, and both times it was a disappointing experience. On my first order, they claimed it wasn’t ready, and on the second, they told me it was mistakenly delivered to someone else. When I eventually received my second order, it was only two-thirds complete. I called the next day to express my frustration, but they treated me as if I was at fault, were rude, and offered no compensation. I’ve decided that I'm done ordering from Alfio's, which is a shame because I live close by.
It is extremely difficult to find real authentic Italian food in the DC/Bethesda area. I can tell you right now you will not find it at this place. The food was similar to my dog?s pedigree. I recommend looking elsewhere for Italian food. This food is literal dog food. I even ordered a desert hoping to god just one night I can enjoy a takeout meal and desert afterwards. The slice of cake they gave us was pathetic, dry, and stale. Stay Away!

Italian-American cuisine executed superbly. The veal parmigiana is excellent, and the meatballs are meaty rather than bready. The fried zucchini served in small disks is delightful. The mozzarella in carrozza is unforgettable. The fried calamari is decent but has room for improvement. The restaurant boasts a beautiful interior with a historic theme. This establishment truly deserves to be packed every night.
Came here on vacation, the interior is insteresting to look at so it gives you something to do while you wait the not very long time for your good food. Salad bar anyone? I?d be happy to come back and try something different. The only complaint was that every few servings, the ice cream tasted like cardboard.
I ordered through Uber Eats and won't be ordering from here again. The food was excessively oily. I had the chicken parmesan, which seemed deep-fried and came housed in a box filled with excess oil. The marinara sauce lacked flavor as well; it was tangy but didn’t have any spices to enhance the taste.
I expected more and definitely did not meet my expectations. Food was room temperature when brought to our table and quality of the food was mediocre. I'll never visit again even if someone else paid. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100

The Italian food here is excellent, and the traditional dining atmosphere is charming, featuring dark wood, red brick, and chandeliers. Our server, Marcos, provided exceptional service. I can't wait to return for another meal!
