If you read any of the reviews for Al's Drive In online, people have a ton of nostalgia for this place. I find nostalgia for a restaurant can play a negative role for those who don't have the association, but that wasn't the case for me who only ate here for the first time today. The Chicago dog and super taco were solid but the combination fried rice was the hero for me. Never thought l'd find this kind of wok hei flavor from a Chicago Red Hots institution in Maywood, IL that would remind me so much of the fried rice I grew up with at my Chinese immigrant family's restaurant in Arizona. Honestly just throw in some bean sprouts and you'd have a 1:1 copy. I may not have the same nostalgia tha...

We've passed by Al's Drive-in American and Chinese many times, and the combination of American and Chinese cuisine is quite an unusual pairing. The slogan "Come as you are or eat in your car" is certainly intriguing. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience; on the American side, they offer hot dogs, hamburgers, and fried catfish, while the Chinese side features fried rice and stir-fry dishes. I found the fried catfish to be exceptional, with a flavorful cornmeal breading and tender meat. The hot dog was boiled and had a nice natural casing. The stir-fry sauce was enjoyable, though it was a little watery. If I lived nearby, I'd definitely make it a regular stop. The dining options are li...

I had to return twice to see if my experience was just a fluke. As a long-time customer who grew up in Maywood, I’ve noticed that Al's has really declined. The fries used to be the main attraction, but that’s no longer the case. The cucumber sauce on the burgers doesn't taste the same either. I’ve never received a stale bun from this place until now, and it feels like it’s become a gamble. The only thing that has remained consistently good is the fried rice. I'm really disappointed in my childhood favorite. I suppose change is inevitable.

Very pleasant person on the phone even on a busy Saturday. They gave me an accurate ETA for my food. Very warm atmosphere when you walk in, and it seems to be a favorite weekend lunch for the locals who know where it's at. Reminds me of a drive in from my small hometown in Utah. They nail the fries and fry sauce. I got the Western Burger. Reasonable prices and good portions. Réservez une table maintenant

Maywood's Oldest Restaurant is steeped in history. Parking is convenient with a lot that accommodates 30 spaces. Additionally, the establishment is wheelchair accessible, featuring a ramp for easy access.
