"We had our diner at the outdoor part of restaurant Altes Amtsgericht. The outdoor Space is directly on the scenic market Square, under the big trees, which gives a wonderfull shade on a sunny evening. The food was excellent and the service was nice and smiling. Definite a place worth wisiting"

The restaurant Altes Amtsgericht is an older converted house in Friedrichstadt right on the market square. After we got nothing to eat in the Dutch restaurant, because the service had just forgotten us, we went to this restaurant. It was lunchtime and unfortunately there were almost all places outside. Only a few tables in the bright sun were still free, but we didn't want to do that. So we entered the restaurant and were greeted at the entrance of two very nice and also quite cute looking services. In the restaurant itself, only the treses are located at the bottom of the entrance area, so you have to take a few steps to sit slightly elevated on an empor. There are also larger rooms (Saal 1, Hall 2) from where to celebrate. We had a brilliant place at the top with a view of the treses and could watch what happened there directly. Since I had already seen what I wanted to order outside on a large board, the selection was actually quite simple. We got the menu to the table we didn't need. I ordered the Swedish curtain (Waffel with 2 balls vanilla ice cream, cream and over the waffle a small shot of Amaretto, which is very nicely over powdered with powdered sugar). I had ordered another cappuccino. My sister ordered an ice cream coffee. We didn't have to wait long for our order. Luckily, because the air in the restaurant was not very pleasant. Either the ventilation was wrong or it was intended that they ventilate the frying odour into the restaurant with fat. that was quite annoying to inhale this smell. When the service finally got our order, we rushed with the food because we wanted to get out of here quite quickly. The Swedish curtain was tasty, there was nothing to put on, even the cappuccino was good. The ice cream coffee from my sister was also delicious as she said. When we wanted to pay, I waved the service at our table. She came quickly and we paid, after that I didn't let it take and addressed her to the annoying kitchen odour, where she just said: there hasn't been a guest saying anything about it or complaining, that I would be the first. Hmmm, well, I thought I had addressed it, and I know that I will certainly not return here so badly, although the waffle was tasty but constantly having the kitchen smell of fat in the nose is always quite annoying...
This inn must have seen better days but as we had only seen it from across the market square we decided to give it a try. Overly welcoming it is not - for example, upon entering you are asked by laminated signs to refrain from hanging your coat on the back of your chair and use the wardrobe instead. Signs again on the way to and in the bathroom - very patronising. But maybe this is necessary because of the hordes of tourists that come to beautiful Friedrichstadt in summer? Anyway, when we visited only three tables were inhabited while the service was friendly and efficient. We had a simple fish dish each and were quite content. No surprises there - neither pleasant nor unpleasant. Wine by the glass (Riesling) was expensive for the quality given. Cake in the buffet looked very good.
in this, all ordered at the same time! koks a glass white wine as apperitif came quicly, after few minutes the Turkish filet «Putensteak» arrived, dry a terrible salt. (as they managed to make a restaurant hall that are fast for...someone to guess) minutes there, after came the red wine, which however tasted excellent. the table was clean and tidy. my friendly complaint to the staff and the manager led to the standard offer for free coffe that we rejected. the very beautiful city friedrichstadt offers other beautiful dining places, so my sincere consultation. eat something else. last year, however, was a pretty oppsite positive experience.
I've been to this restaurant a few times now and it's been an excellent experience. The staff treated us extremely well there and definitely intend on going back there on our next holiday to Friedrichstadt. The food is quite pricey, but not extortionate and is well worth the excellent quality. The quality of the food is at a very high standard so I had no issue in paying a few extra euros for it. The food has a very classic German/Danish feel but you will still manage to eat new things there and is great for groups and intimate enough for a romantic meal for two.
