Altstaufner Einkehr

After our hiking tour to the Hochgrat with short stippvisite in Staufner's house, forced by the weather, we wanted to have the day culinaric in the first inn at the "Zum Hirschen" square in Scheidegg. But the advanced time stopped us spontaneously in Oberstaufen. A short look at the reviews at TA and the listed guest house in the centre of the city with the somewhat anachronistic name “Altstaufner Einkehr” was quickly chosen as a destination. In addition to the food and beverage offer, the showcase proudly announced that the FEINSCHMECKER had made it among the 500 best “restaurants for every day”. We went there without a reservation and just got the last table. We ordered a local wine (OK), Wiener schnitzel (excellent) and pork medallions (excellent). We both also ordered potato salad and fried onions (again both excellent). The presentation was outstanding.The greeting was friendly and we were immediately recognised as British, spoken to in English and given an English menu, although the specials were only in German which our host translated for us.The atmosphere inside is of a traditional Bavarian restaurant (a very busy one!) and remember it only opens at 5pm and is closed on a Monday.We will return for one of the best meals we've had for a while.

Charming local restaurant with an English menu. The food was outstanding. Hubby and I both had the s weiner schnitzel, which was delicious. Best I have ever eaten. I don't like potato salad, and the server was glad to change the side to speatzle, which was outstanding. Beer was our drink of choice. Don't flinch when the schnitzel is served with lemon-use it, and the accompanying jelly is great. Don't miss this charming, affordable restaurant.

After basically everyone we met during our first day in Oberstaufen recommended this place, we decided to go there a bit unsure as people said it was "really casual". The place is typically south German in its deco, and the food was simply delicious.The service fast and friendly and all in all very good value for money too.We will come back even though only staying for a week in the area. know morris bertha was a blessing for me, my family and friends, there is no dispute that she is the best account manager of all time. I have made a retreat before a few moments, it was so great that this is really an opportunity to know them wow friends, I cannot be so selfish enough to enjoy this alone, they can always contact them. If you only can visit one restaurant in Oberstaufen, this is the one. Everything we tried was perfect - and has been for many years. They are also very flexible in making suggestions for kids and most dishes can be ordered in smaller portions as well. The friendliness of the staff today was extraordinaire. Enjoy!

We had a great meal here- 250g steak with pepper sauce. Very tasty steak indead with a good sauce and loads of veg. We had a separate dish of a mountain of chips which were the thin sort ie all crisp and no insides. The service was good and I had a raspberry tiramisu which was lovely.

Wanted to spend the evening in a traditional bavarian restaurant and found it.service quick and efficient..the food...not the biggest menue but who needs that, if the choices are great.the veal schitzel was far out the best I had for years....would recommend it any minute Réservez une table maintenant

3 times to come and then rejected before the end of the kitchen. we are guests who come to eat again and again are unfriendly rejected very bad for such a local. as normal gas they are nothing more desired. Too bad if you don't drive with the ferrari before.

I have enjoyed Altstaufner Einkehr for years and continue to visit every time I'm in Oberstaufen. Miche is a fantastic host who insures that each meal is of the highest quality. Dining there is a unique experience which can't be duplicated.
