Downstairs from reception at the Playasol hotel in Bolnuevo, the Amapola is a treat for all lovers of Mediterranean fare. The menu changes daily depending on what the chef bought in the market or fancies cooking for that day. We have eaten there several times now, sometimes French influenced, sometimes Italian, but always served with traditional Spanish waiting attentive and polite. Always a safe bet to bring guests. We visited this restaurant several years ago and had a great set menu. This time we stayed at the hotel to visit the restaurant to break a journey back south. We again opted for the set menu,all in all rather uninspiring and no choice of dessert which I find very unusual. Disappointing, perhaps a different chef,certainly not the same as the person who thought this was Michelin status,or perhaps he dosnt do food like ourselves.
We went on a Wednesday evening for the 2 for 1 special at €28 tax. Limited choice for 3 courses. Salad or pasta, chicken potatoes or soup with mackerel. Desert. We all chose chicken as who wants soup for a main course. Very small portions but what we did have was fine. Wouldn't go back even though price was reasonable, had better meals for less.
The evening meal, be it menu or a la carte is well prepared and served with courteous service. Prices are remarkably reasonable, and the entertainment was not intrusive. In summer months the pre-dinner drinks area outside offers a pleasant and sophisticated experience Réservez une table maintenant
El lugar esta bien en general, pero se retrasaron mucho entre plato y plato, se hizo un poco larga la comida. Ademas un detalle que no me gusto fue que la cocacola que pedias con las copas o sola… era de botella grande y estaba sin gas…
A lovely place with beautiful surroundings. This was a group outing at the end of the season. After the meal there was music and dancing, and the owner joined in with the dancing . All in all a very nice experience.
The nearest thing you will get to fine dining in Puerto Mazarrón. Nice surroundings, good service, good menu and good food. Not the cheapest but well worth going for a special occasion.
Found the food very disappointing. We went to try the food with the thought of holding a private party there. Food is not what it use to be. Réservez une table maintenant

"The tapas is on display as you walk into El Hogar... its all mouth watering stuff. We have been several times to this restaurante... sometimes for tapas, sometimes for lunch, sometimes for tostadas for breakfast. Its always yummy!"
