Anju is a great atmosphere for a smaller group of friends. The decor is simple, but yet perfect for 17th ave. My friends and I had gone on a Sunday evening after work, when trying to make a reservation online, the only times available were really late (9pm only). This was disappointing, considering when we walked in there was clearly a lot more tables open; I understand that a lot of restaurants have certain tables for reservation but we were sat at the window. My son and I decided to try this place while my wife was off on holidays. Located on a busy and amid a lot of very good dining places on 17th Ave, this restaurant comes highly regarded and with good reason.When trying a new place, we typically go for the small sharing plates since this gives us the chance to see how wide the kitchen's expertise spreads. So, we started with an order of kimchi (this is a Korean fusion place so the spicy cabbage national dish is a must, and it is not very spicy at all.We also had the fried brussels (superb), mushroom tempura (my favourite), crispy tofu (my son loved it) and the squid fried rice. We visited today with another couple for brunch. We arrived at 11.15 on a Saturday and it was pretty empty inside. However, it looked clean and inviting and we were seated right away and offered water. We ordered coffees which arrived quickly too.Our server was attentive and prompt and we pondered the menu for around 5 minutes before ordering. We ordered off the brunch menu - 3 orders of eggs benny with pork belly and kimchi, and one order of Hash bowl with shrimp. Our food came after approximately 20 minutes. My teens took me here for an early Mother's Day special outing. We enjoyed a casual atmosphere with a nicely appointed menu. Our favourite dishes were the brussel sprouts, & Oxtail tortellini. All the plates were wonderful so we ended up ordering all the desserts on the menu, just to try them all. Bottom dessert picture is Green Tea Coconut Butter Tart [the best balance of beautiful flavours/textures], Middle Dark Chocolate White Truffle Pate [intensely chocolate, soul moving chocolate goodness], Top dessert was a new menu addition which is definitely for those who like a flavour sensation of chocolate, vinegar, cayenne & a fishy flake taste. This place is amazing great food great atmosphere and if you get Jessica as a server you have done well. She is amazing, she made the nite, very knowledgeable, patient and funny, knows her stuff and knew exactly what we would like and not enjoy for a party of 7 women, tough crowd but she was amazing. The manager was a delight as well he got us in and made it a fun nite. We are all still talking about it as it was our first visit there. Highly recommend this restaurant, the patio looks great too we were on the restaurant side and that was nice too....
We had a business lunch here today. The restaurant was quiet and casual setting but the pricing was anything but.First of all, if you are looking for Korean BBQ, then go somewhere else, this is Korean fusion...It's a tapas style ie small plates to be shared. We had poke, which was really good, but a small amount of sushi grade fish.One of my companions had the halibut, and it took forever to come out, long after our dishes, and then they substituted salmon without asking first? Not real impressed with that.
We went for a family dinner on Tuesday evening. We spent almost $200.00 for 3 people. When I went to use the ladies bathroom, there was water all over the floor mixed in with toilet paper. There was a strong odour of urine and feces. The sinks were dirty and the mirrors unclean. When I went to advise the manager, he gave me a curt apology and said they had water issues, and that was all. Horrible customer relations. Would not ever go back or recommend. Makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is.
