What a special place! I went here on a Wednesday, and by 6pm the place was already packed... Initially I was afraid I wouldn't get a table, but Rosie found some friendly locals who didn't mind sharing their table and stories about Aom Ecken with...me. I ordered the chicken wings (the specialty) with fries and salad. The food is simple, but good. What makes this place really worth a visit, is the atmosphere! Be aware though, because it's true that it can take a long time before you get your food (but to be honest, I have yet to find another restaurant where people would be willing to wait for over 2 hrs for their food!!! Says a lot about the place in my opinion) because Hummel is all by himse...
Its like stepping into your Grandmother's place the walls are decorated with family pictures and kitschy memorabilia. The place was packed full of locals you might even end up a communal table with them as we did. The 70 year old woman behind...the bar, and the 73 year old man in the kitchen are clearly experienced, but it took 3 hours for our food to arrive. I would like to say it was bland, or boring, and not worth the wait. But the food was incredible! Delicious and cooked to perfection. If you don't like waiting this is not the place for you. But patience is a virtue, use it here drink a bottle of wine, or three and you will be well rewarded.
Quite a small place near the centre. Right upon entering you got this feeling that you came to a real local place with lot of Stamgäste . People were very friendly, even got a meal few minutes the kitchen was closing. And the food was superb!...Large portions a very tasty German style for a very reasonable price-rather cheap! You 'll be lucky to find a table here and its surely worth the visit.
Really local people place. It's small, and overcrowded place, witch you must to visit. There is place with brilliant atmosphere and big portions. Better come earlier, otherwise you won't get a table at all. Price is not so small, this place should be marjed with... signs in trip advisor. As a drink you should try Viez apple wine.

Here's a hint: Walk in, take a seat, and practice your German with the locals. It's a truly authentic German restaurant off-the-beaten path, but worth the trip. It beats those tourist places a few blocks away- and you'll certainly leave with a good story or...two along with memories of great German cuisine!
This was recommended by the staff at Hotel Porta Nigra, as a good place to eat. The staff was friendly, and service very good. The meal as wonderful and almost too much for one person. It is a wonderful neighborhood place to eat and have...a nice beer and enjoy the evening. Well worth going to.

Food is excellent for what you expect of the German cuisine. Service is slow and not friendly. We waited one hour for our food on a Wednesday night. Most people smoke inside so it's not pleasant to eat. Prices are good.

Great little local pub. Small, but cozy and comfortable. English speaking bar tender was very helpful. Food was great. Hot, and in generous portions. Arrive early as it gets busy as the evening progresses.
Stopped by later...place was full but Christina asked us to join her. Wonderful meal...wonderful ambassador for the town. Took us for a walk around her town after dinner. Many thanks to Hummel!
