I heard this place had the best burgers in town. So I had to come by. I finished ordering the 16 oz Hamburger Steak (that was the biggest Go BIG or go home with fries, a peach and apple cake. Unknown, the burger did not come together (I think it was because I did not require engraving and onions. It came with two pieces of Texas toast on the side. I would have ordered an extra piece of toast considering the size of the burger. The burger was tasteful, the Texas Toast was roasted for perfection, and the pancake filling was ok (it tastes better with ice). The apple cake is much better. I ordered take out. When I got to our house we discover that our order was wrong. They forgot our fries. I called and they said we'd have to come back to get the fries. I requested that they redo our food, because everything was already cold. They said they would not redo our order, just the fries. I drove back, handed them the cold food, and got our $31 back!!! My wife and I have been going to Archie's every week or two for about a year and we've never had an issue like this. The lady on the phone and at the check out counter were just plain old RUDE!!! It looks like we've got to find us a new BBQ Burger joint
In Hoover/Birmingham for work and an employee from the area brought us to Archie. The grill pig was incredibly tasty and had a delicious, tasty sauce that will be in my dreams forever and a day. The staff welcomed us with smiles and patience, as I just got out of a Food Network Show on the oven and authentic, aged Diner Vibe. I ordered a plate of pork grill with choice of beans and a sweet and acidic Cole claw. At advice from my colleague I got the pork (instead of chopped) with half of it in meat and half the burned ends. It was a meal that will remind my taste buds for decades.
Archie is just as good as when it was Golden Rule. Basically the same menu and the same quality. Servers are usually full of Southern charm and food comes quickly. The portions are decent size, and I never remember getting hungry there. No ribs, but the pig is always delicious. Definitely recommend getting outside the meat so you can get the good smokey taste of pork. Page selections are somewhat limited, but if you're all right with French fries, baked beans or chips, you'll be fine.
