We have eaten paella all over Spain and this is by far our favorite!! My mom and her sister come to Peñíscola for about a month every year and I have come to visit for a week each of the last two years. We always look forward to having paella at Polo Sur. It is just so so good and perfectly cooked every time!! I seriously dream of this place when I am back home and can't wait until the next time I can come. We always get the paella de mariscos (seafood), but they have several options. Don't forget to scrape the bottom of the pan. We fight over those crusty bits! They also have tapas, great sangria and tasty desserts. My aunt loves the olives they serve. We love the woman who runs the restaurant. She is super friendly and remembers my mom when she comes. She is patient with our Spanish and really helpful. I always ask her questions about where to find things and about Spain in general. All of Spain is awesome, but it is worth it to come to this area just for the food at Polo Sur!

My wife and I were lucky to pick Polo Sur as the place for the first lunch of our vacation. Lucky, because we didn't quite get the opening hours: mostly the restaurant was closed when we walked by. However, the menu as advertised on the street (arroz rojo con cangrejos) turned out to be delicious! The waiter said he wouldn't speak English, but he did well enough to get over all the parts where my Spanish wasn't enough. My lactose intolerance was taken seriously and checked from the kitchen. The waiter was good, friendly and fun. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
I know Valencia is supposed to be the home of paella, I did eat some great paella in Valencia, but it doesn’t compare to the amazing paella here. We walked here from Peñíscola, which was a long hot walk in the sun. In hindsight I would recommend catching the bus. But, the seafood paella was soooo worth the walk. Delicious! I had a nice glass of cold white vermut with it, and we had jamon cheese while we waited for the paella to be cooked.
