We have eaten lunch here once a year for the past 7 years. The setting is delightful you feel as if you are in deepest countryside although it is only 5 minutes from Marseillan, and 5 minutes from Meze. The two dining rooms are large and furnished with an old fashioned charm with a huge fireplace in each where the ducks, or geese, or gigot lamb are cooked and basted in front of the open fire. The menu is always similar but reflects somewhat the seasons, although I can only recommend going when the weather is cold since the meal is huge substantial starter, followed by another substantial starter (ie stuffed mussels, ragout of mussels and squid, salad of chicken livers, puff pastry containing mushrooms or leeks and duck etc. Normally a choice of 3 meats from the fireplace plus an alternative cassoulet or civet de lievre or beef casserole. After that, profiteroles a la maison (huge and delicious) or a fruit tart. The wines come from the Domaine and are at cost price. It is a great place to go to with a group of friends since all the main courses are served on help yourself platters for sharing with your friends, and it is not so much fun with a table for 2. Book well in advance since it is very popular and only open at weekends out of season. It is a yearly treat for us do not eat breakfast on the day that you lunch there!

My wife and I went here recently for the first time with two friends and were not disappointed. The 17th century building suggested a 'feel good factor ' that continued when we arrived at the restaurant upstairs a magnificent room with a large open fire where guests could see the meat being cooked on a spit. As one of our friends observed Henry VIII wouldn 't have been out of place here, tucking into a medieval banquet (even though he preceded the building by 200 years! . We were given a warm welcome and the service was attentive throughout the evening. The atmosphere could not have been cosier. There were various menus on offer 17.50€, 23.50€ and 30€. Between us, we enjoyed chicken liver salad, snails and sea food puff pastry as the starters, and followed this with spit roasted lamb and beef casserole all mouth watering. There was so much food I couldn 't even manage my main meal! I think we had ice cream for dessert but the wine was flowing and I can 't remember! The wine came at cost price we had Merlot and rose and we waddled out of the restaurant, stomachs full, senses impaired, but with a lasting impression of a perfect evening behind us.

We have visited loupian nearly every year for the past 16 years. We try to find new restaurants to visit every year but find it hard as most cook/deliver the same food, mainly oysters and mussels, raw or cooked. We went on TripAdvisor and found this fantastic Auberge.Granted it was not easy to find but please be persistent following the signs and you will not be disappointed.(They could advertise on the main road that it is an Aurberge but that would attract tourists so maybe not! The location, building, dining room, staff and food totally amazing.Fortunately we went on a mission to find it 10 days in advance to book our table for lunch. There is only one sitting and the restaurant was fully booked, with mainly local French who greeted the owners and staff with the traditional 3 kisses of this area.Limited menu as is usual for a authentic Aurberge, local home cooked produce.Four course menu,30 Euros each, two bottles of their delicious wine from their own vineyards and 1 coffee =72.50euros.Amazing value! Have booked a table to take our friends for their 50th wedding anniversary next month. My mouth is watering already! Thank you team Benau.

This is a real delight. So different to most restaurants in this area. It's traditional, rural and entertaining. Let me be clear: this is not cordon bleu but original and rustic. A 20 -30 seater restaurant, a small menu but so refreshing. While the main course is gently turning on a spit in front of a huge fireplace, you get to choose from a starter, then another, before the main course arrives from the fireplace. Wine is selected from their own stock at lower prices than you could imagine. The waitress was delightful and the puddings and coffee were spot on. Here's the catch: only open on a Saturday night, Sunday Lunch and Bank Holidays. The exception being if you are a large party you could make a private arrangement. Menu changes seasonally. We chose Quail, Escargot, Mutton Duckling, followed by home made pears in red wine and profiteroles, a red and a white from the estate (both great) €106 for three. Brilliant.
