Un délice gastronomique inattendu, à quelques pas du camping. Nous avons visité le restaurant un mardi soir de juin. Les seules options étaient des menus à 40, 55 et 60 euros. Ce n'est pas un endroit pour un repas rapide ou bon marché, mais idéal pour une soirée à manger. J'ai eu le menu à 60 euros. Pas bon marché mais délicieux. Oignons caramélisés luxuriants sur du pain grillé, tapenade sur un crostini en guise d'accroche ; fleurs de courgettes tempura ; foie gras sur un lit de verdure printanière au beurre sur une vraie pâte feuilletée française ; carré d'agneau avec la purée de pommes de terre la plus onctueuse et les fraises fraîches nichées sur des choux à la crème fouettée sur une bas...
Auberge de la Madone provided us with the most memorable meal of our recent 2 week holiday. I had been following the restaurant on Facebook in the months leading up to our holiday and had developed a pretty high expectation that was not let down. We found our food to be very innovative with some very nice flavors. The wine recommended by our server complimented our meals well. Our server was extremely helpful in helping us navigate the menu as our mastery of french is marginal. Peillon is extraordinary. Only half an hour from Nice and a wonderful (small) village perche. And more or less undiscovered. There isn't a shop of any kind, let alone tourist traps selling tourist tat. But it does have this hotel, Friendly, comfortable, brilliantly located and with excellent food. This is a real find. There is some great walking in the hills behind and don't miss the cemetery above the hotel. Go.
This was our last vacation evening in France. And the best. The view and ambiance are beautiful, perched up in the heavens. It was so relaxing and enjoyable that our family talked well into the evening. It was a delight to receive such creative meals. I ordered the lamb and it was the best I have ever had. Everything was excellent, but I keep thinking about that lamb. The service was outstanding.
