The place could be a little heaven but the service is so bad that it destroys any positive aspects unfortunately. I don't like giving bad reviews but i need to be objetive on this one despite the fact that the food was very good. We spent one night there and had dinner and breakfast. PLUS nice traditional auberge and restaurant cosy atmosphere good traditional food the bedrooms are not the best but they're good for one night it;s great to be able to drink and eat and have the bedroom just above : TO IMPROVE service service service!!! basically, one doesn't feel welcome at all, and even worse, it's like if you were disturbing them! Only one guy was friendly but the ladies, especially the younger one (we think she was the one in charge was extremely arrogant. The time limit for the breakfast is 9.30am! and what they serve is a joke (on a Sunday morning I expect a bit more than just 1 croissant and a piece of bread! this is what you get ... white bread and it's big thing to get it toasted it seems! . If you want more than 1 croissant or pain au chocolat, good luck with that! We didn't manage and nobody ever came to ask whether we needed something else. they started to clean the restaurant (putting chairs on the tables and using the hoover! while people were still having breakfast... no comment! So, I will never go back, and unfortunately I do NOT recommend the place at all as it's not like it was a super cheap deal either, despite the fact that I think the potential is there.
If you are in Clermont-Ferrand or visiting the Auvergne, this is a good choice for lunch or dinner. It is located in a small village or hamlet, which in and of itself is not especially beautiful. But the restaurant is truly lovely, located in the lower level of an rustic old building with beautiful old stone work and wooden beams. There is abundant amounts of food at a very reasonable price. They have many traditional auvergnese dishes, nicely prepared. But, the food is not up the quality of many of the fantastic options in the region, particularly in the country-side in the Puy-de-Dome and Cantal, where some of the best cuisine in France is to be found. The service was not particularly attentive, and there was not a feeling of any warmth among the service person and owners. All that being said, I would certainly return, even if it is just to enjoy the lovely setting.
We found this auberge on a cold wet day, and though it isn't obvious from the outside how good it is, go inside and you are in for a treat. Local food, well cooked, a fantastic cheese board, and a nice wine list. A very welcoming place, we have been back, and would recommend it if you are in the area.
