After a several year absence, we were in the neighborhood and decided to stop by Axel's to give them another try, and have dinner. We were glad we did. The food was every bit as delicious as I had remembered it being several years ago (before a change of cooks sometime around 2015 that stopped us from going any long), and even more so. The Old Fashions some in our group had were among the most delicious we've had, and we've already made plans to return just for them. One guy had the hamburger dinner and loved it. Apparently Axels was sold recently and will be changing their name. This has always been one of our favorite restaurants, but we were there last night, and they are no longer honoring gift cards at this location. We were told we could go to Mendota Heights to use it. That is not acceptable. Also, they were out of potatoes so couldn't get a baked potato; or humus. That was unusual. Lunds Byerly's is down the street. That is the first time I have been disappointed in all the years we have dined there. Still got popovers though, which was nice.
Janet, our waitress was excellent. Had walleye fingers, pop-overs, wedge salad and cream of chicken soup. Great food, except the soup was WAY too salty. New owners put big screen tv's in the dining room of a classic supper club. Great way to take the atmosphere from what was 5 star down to 3 star. TV's in the bar area is acceptable, but do not belong in the dining room. Service: Dine in

The restaurant was empty, except for the two of us which was fine. Food was delicious. The service was good I believe that they’re under new management and that that’s why they weren’t a lot of people in the restaurant when we were there, but it was a OK and a great dinner was had
