This is so disappointing to write, considering how special this place has been to us. Back Forty catered our wedding before they changed ownership and the food was amazing (so were the previous owners). After they changed ownership, it seemed like everything had stayed the same for a time. But we just went back this evening and it was so different. First off, the owners are now advertising a bunch of non-BBQ food and it is TACKY. I don't want wonton soup or fried rice when I go to a BBQ restaurant. Second, they changed the BBQ sauce completely. It used to be smoky and so delicious. Now it tastes like overly sweet honey mustard. It tasted awful with the pulled pork. I mentioned this to our waitress (who was lovely and did a fantastic job) and she said she'll mention it to the owners. This place has changed for the worse and unfortunately we won't be back until they go back to the real Back Forty ways and we see that tacky sign out by the street taken down.
My wife brought me here for Father's Day. When we arrived, we were told that they had sold out of a few items. After we ordered, they repeatedly came to the table to tell us that items we had already ordered were no longer available. After an hour and a half wait our food finally arrived. The meat portions were tiny. Three small slices of brisket, four small slices of tri-tip, and a grilled catfish that most certainly was boiled. The food was mediocre at best. The only bright spot was our server, who was very pleasant despite the circumstances. At least we didn't have the experience of the table next to us. They were told that they couldn't use their gift cards, because they were issued by the previous owner.
Horrible! After spending over $80 for 2 of us. The food tastes like it was cooked two weeks ago. I’ve had beef jerky more tender than the smoked brisket which was not smoked… the chicken had more bone than chicken… corn bread was horrid to say the least. The sides are bland and small. And the amount of meat you get is equal to that of a 4 piece chicken McNugget meal at McDonald’s which would’ve been better and cheaper. Needless to say this place should’ve closed their doors years ago.
We love eating at the Back 40! The owners are wonderful people who are always working hard at the restaurant. Just a great place to go for good food, phenomenal service with reasonable prices. They do run out of food so getting there early is a must-if you want moist brisket ;
