My wife and I frequently ordered takeaway from Ballantynes in 2015 and never disappointed. The serves were great value and the fish was usually spot on. Unfortunately from then to present day I have noticed small changes, fish batter was becoming thicker and greasier, fish flesh more mushy and the chip servings reducing in size. Today was the tipping point when a staff member failed record the order name correctly Simon = Zanial? 15-20 min later it was rectified, too late to salvage the meal.I would like to point out it was ordered by my wife and her voice and speech was clear as day.There may be no correlation but the shop has also been a ghost town the last few visits.
Ordered some Fish and chips here last week Positive Note: I had ordered 1 serve of chips and a battered barra and it was beautifully cooked with heaps of chips in the order and the young lady who served me had customer service skills. On the down note: The place could do with some better lighting, new tiles on the floors as its very dark inside, and the place seems really old but with a little TLC it should look like a million bucks and maybe more chair and tables inside would be great. And lastly the salad could have a improvement maybe serve Geek or Garden not just lettuce, beetroot and tomato.But above all the food is great.
We have ordered fish and chips here twice and both times it was terrible. The first time the chips were fine but the fish was burnt and inedible. So we basically paid $45 to eat a few hot chips for dinner. The second time, the chips were undercooked (still hard) and the fish was pasty with burnt crumbs. We got two potato scallops that were less hard than the chips, so $50 got us one potato scallop each for dinner. Will not eat there again.
I don't enjoy giving mixed or negative feedback but after many, many orders through Ballantynes I can only wonder why the orders placed are always either undercooked, soggy, incorrect or just thrown together? I always enjoy supporting small business and local but it is very hard to order when dealing with this when ordering?

Most fish and chips places give you twice as much food for the price I paid. My gf and I couldn't eat much cause it made us feel like throwing up. Some of the batter on the fish wasn't cooked.We tryed to feed some of the left overs to our dog and not even he would eat it even when we pulled all the batter off the fish.
The service was so terrible I asked to speak to the Manager and he was just as bad! I was advised that the place had gone downhill and not to bother, wish I had listened... Will never go there again
Ok fish, chips and burgers. We only went there as conveiniant. Doesn't offer Australian or local fish- which is a terrible shame. We would ALWAYS pay more for local caught. Average.
Absolutely worlds worst fish and chips burnt beyond recognition very very disappointing never again and also expensive and imported

Cost $62 would of rather made it myself it used to be good but has gone down hill the last 3 times we have gone
I hope we have a another fish and chip near by. That can be worth my money. Small fish heap of batter.
