Banh Mi Bay is well situated, on the corner of Grays Inn Road and Theobalds Road, just a stone’s throw from Holborn and not too far from the City. With their cheap, quick and easy Vietnamese baguettes (the eponymous Banh Mi) I imagine they would do a roaring takeaway lunch trade. My dining partner and I, however, had seen the full menu online and couldn’t resist trying out the restaurant for dinner one Friday evening. The décor is all pale green walls and light wood furnishings, with Vietnamese groceries for sale from a cabinet at one side of the spacious dining room. Whilst perfectly pleasant, these looks add to the casual, daytime feel of the place. The wine list was quite limited...read m...

.... I suggested we met at Banh Mi Bay, a casual Vietnamese cafe a few minutes walk from the venue. The inside is clean and calm – pale green walls, scrubbed wooden tables and simple white chairs. The menu consists of a few starters (spring/summer rolls), pho noodle soups, bun noodle salads, and banh mi baguettes – standard Vietnamese fare. We ordered a couple of ginger and apple juices (they do have a small wine list and a couple of beers if you fancy them), and, having both had rather large lunches, two bun vermicelli noodle salads with char-grilled lime tiger prawns. The juices arrived promptly and were freshly squeezed and delicious. Our salads arrived un-mixed and with a small...read mo...

the Vietnamese baguette is a simple dish, but with different success levels. always ideal for lunch and only one step over the usual sandwich. in general, they are excellent in melbourne. it is a blend of high quality brot with rich fillings and aromen. and in toronto they are somewhat modernized, but still rewarding. Unfortunately I can't say that the banh mi bay was so pleasant. I'm going to charge her meat and rice dishes, but the caramel pot 5) was a bit down. the brot is not a real crusty French baguette and the meat was unsatisfactory cold (but this is planted) and a little dry. also, butter and pate arent clips in the filling, they cost...read more

we pre-ordered the phone and then come to pick it up. it was fast and easy. the menu had some interesting items and we ordered an item from each area. I liked her nudelsalat as there was a fair amount of meat on them. the reisk branches were also very nice, the bay special had a few different types of meat on it. also the prawn and pork pfannkuchen was very nice and it came with fresh crumbles and salad. the noodles were okay. I think the aromen were beautiful and portion wasn't too bad. we have divided it so that can not be sure how the filling of a single part would have been.

hailing from sydney I am spoiled for choice when it comes to cheap, fresh, delicious Vietnamese cuisine. After I entered the thornbridge tap takeover at the craft beer co in clerkenwell this afternoon, I needed a nosh. my Google search, which was close and worth it, gave banh mi bay back – more valued had praised their rolls. I strangled myself to get one.

I'm not big on sandwiches. I mean, I like to pret as much as the next person, but I can't be too excited about sandwiches to lunch. Therefore, during my working days I spent a large part of my salary in sushi places and back when I worked in holborn, I had lucky enough to work in a shining removal of a banh mi bay, the local vietnamesen.

Not too long ago, I’d have to go to Paris to satisfy my craving for banh mi. What a difference twelve months can make! While I wouldn’t say London has a huge banh mi scene now, there are at least half a dozen places to find those porky-savory-sweet-spicy

Absolutely amazing place for service and food. I'm a Pho addict and would say that this is the best place for it in London. I thought nothing would compare to I love Pho in Melb, Australia but this is definitely on par
