We had an exceptionally professional young server. Our cocktails were excellent. Watermelon doesn 't always have flavor. Their watermelon margaritas did. My Disco Zombie (silly name, sophisticated drink) was beautifully balanced and perfectly presented. The dishes were fresh and well seasoned. Even the salsa had Roasted tomatoes so garlic and peppers were not the main flavor. There was a problem, for me, with my ceviche but their response showed their professionalism and dedication. I was concerned it hadn 't been marinated lime juice long enough to 'cook ' thoroughly. I asked that they just microwave it to finish it off but they didn 't want to compromise the dish. Always in search of a good deal, my husband found out that Barrio Costero has happy hour all night on Thursdays! The margs were good, and we leveled up by adding spicy salt! Unfortunately we didn't have the best dining experience mainly because our waitress wasn't super clear about the happy hour nacho portion (just an individual large chip/tostada loaded with topics); and she forgot to put in our taco order (after telling us our food was coming, she realized 20-30 min later that she hadn't actually put the taco order in with the kitchen). Once the tacos (chicken, pork, and fish of the day), they were flavorful but it was frustrating that we had to wait so long. 3.5 stars overall.
My friend and I came without a reservation, and were seated outside very quickly. We started with the guacamole, it's pretty good but mostly just avocado, lime juice, and garlic salt is the flavor. There's no other veggies in it. I got the fish and he got the chicken tacos. They say the plates are made for sharing, but the portions are enough for one person and the menu isn't diverse enough to order many plates in my opinion. The fish tacos were excellent. Everything else was unremarkable at best. It's like someone went to Cosme and tried to recreate without any heart or soul. The pricing here is cynical, $20 tacos and tortas with an interesting topping, but what's underneath (the most important part) is almost impossibly average. You can get better tasting Mexican food for 1/3 of the price, or go upscale and get something wildly more impressive for the same price.
Haven't been to a place in a while that was a solid 5/5 enter to exit. Host and server were fantastic. We came on a Thursday and ordered most of our food and drink off the HH menu. Margaritas came with a bunch of salt options !? , tacos seasoned perfectly, and the guac was great. The check was served in a Jacob's Ladder! I already want to go back. Oh wait get the individual nacho!
