I was there on a hot summer day, walkimg up the nice trail from the suspension railway through the woods and once your up on the first alp, you can buy best cheese there, made in the cave. From there you probably walk another half...an hour towards Ebenalp, until you see the sign forthe Aescher. I arrived after lunchtime at about 13.30h and got a nice table within a couple of minutes, where you can overlook the whole area towards Seealpsee. The temperature was nice and warm and the team of service employees was extremely attentive and brought me a menucard immediately. I would have expected the same food as it was served previously, but it has improved so much from then and I wouldn't have e...

Absolutely stunning! The meals are quite large, and cost us 24CHF- (I guess it was standard for Switzerland prices!) We shared one between 2 and I was full afterwards. We are vegetarians and had the rosti with eggs and cheese (delicious!) but they also have sausages and salad, but the rosti seemed to be the favorite. It was a beautiful day quite busy outside so we had to wait for a table on the terrace, which didn't take that long. There was no line and no staff to help seat you so it was just a polite free for all, first come first served type basis. We went at the end of May and it wasn't overcrowded but of course not as secluded as the photos always portray. I would definitely recommend!!...

It was a cold - rainy day when we took the gondola up to hike to this restaurant. We almost decided not to do it because we weren't sure if we were going to be able to see anything and it was raining hard and windy. The hike is pretty easy - about 15 minutes and having this little restaurant at the end makes it very fun. I had the cheese rosti which are cheesy hash browns with fried eggs and bacon. - it was a lot of food and it was cooked perfectly for me. We were headed from Liechtenstein to Zurich so this was a little out of our way but were very glad we stopped. The views ended up being amazing even in the clouds and it was a fun journey.

Our cycling group prefaced our two week Swiss tour by visiting this unique and beautifully situated restaurant. We eschewed the popular tram and even the easier road/trail for the more vigorous trail that took in the picturesque Seealpsee and its valley. A nice 3 hour hike through some of the most breathtaking natural beauty I have seen culminating with the Aescher Berggasthaus nestled in the side of a high cliff overlooking the valley! After rostis and beers for lunch we descended by tram back to the parking lot. A unique and highly memorable experience that the cycle tour will have a hard time bettering! If you are faint at heart then you may want to avoid this restaurant. One must ride a ski lift that scales steep mountain cliffs then hike a short distance along a safe but rocky path, that winds through a damp cave and gets very narrow at parts. But once there, this restaurant is perched in a place with an incredible view. I had the hash browns with cheese and two fried eggs. It was deeeeeeelicious. If you want a "once in a lifetime" restaurant experience, don't pass this up.

To reach this lodge, you go up in a cable car and then walk down a slope on the other side. Part of the walk is through a cave and later along the cliff side, passing a small church. The lodge/restaurant is built into the rock surface. The view is breathtaking spanning mountains and a lake. Then its a walk up the same slope back to the cable car. The food at this restaurant was simply amazing, One of the best I had in Switzerland.

Great view, not as good in person as in the pictures, but still a great view. Can't justify 20CHF for sausage and rosti, but it is a nice view. The miniature horses and the cave church were also cute. I wouldn't necessarily travel from the ends of the earth to see this, but if you're in the St. Gallen/ Appenzell region, it's a great way to spend a half day or so.

New team runs this restaurant now since last year. The food is in average level, but the staffs are so friendly. And the view is incredible. I will suggest to hike from Wasserauen to Äscher, and make a stop here. Then take either cable car...down to Wasserauen. Réservez une table maintenant

Stopped here on our way down from Ebenalp to Wasserauen and enjoyed a tasty Rösti with an Appenzeller beer. Great to see how it's built into the rock. Does get busy so may need some time for a table to become available.
