This was ABSOLUTELY terrible. If I could give a 1/2 star, I would. I can't imagine who would like this restaurant, but I imagine them to be like the other clientele we saw in there far right of center. That in and of itself is not a problem, but the food was awful. I ordered one with whiz, mushrooms, and cooked onions: the meat was unseasoned, the bread was soft but bland, just like the rest of the meal. My husband ALSO ordered a cheese steak, but inexplicably his sandwich had ground beef. Neither of us have any idea why this place has nearly 5 stars, a seemingly loyal customer base, or how it can even call itself a restaurant. I just have to say that despite not being from Philadelphia, I visit many times a year since I live in New Jersey. I've tried cheesesteaks from Pat's, Geno's, Pudge's from Blue Bell, and Tony Luke's, but Big Joe's has been the best I've ever had. Don't be swayed by the more popular places - Big Joe's serves the most generous portions of meat, their steaks are seasoned perfectly, the bread is soft, and the large steak is a whopping 12 inches. What more could you want? I highly recommend everyone to try Big Joe's for the best cheesesteak Philly has to offer.
This restaurant is amazing! Just take a look at this hoagie, it's beautiful! And it was incredibly delicious. It can be tough to find vegetarian options at a cheesesteak shop, but Big Joe's has got it covered. I'll definitely be back to try their veggie cheesesteak someday.
