We were staying at the St-Martin Hotel in downtown Montreal and decided to try the house restaurant L'Aromate for its special Tuesday night tartare event (all you can eat of various tartare dishes for just $27pp). We were a little hesitant because of the mixed signals on the Internet: on the one hand, it has a distinguished chef, Jean-Francois Plante, who has published at least five books (in French) on fine cooking; on the other hand, this restaurant is rated only 3.5 on TA, number 533 or so in Montreal. Nous avons été reçus par une fille pressée et de mauvaise humeur qui n'a pas souri une seule fois et qui nous demande de commander vite.2. We were directed to this beautiful restaurant by the hotel concierge, unfortunately the concierge had an old menu, and based on that he recommended the place.My wife is a vegetarian and she doesn't eat row fish...We could not find any dishes that would be good for her as dinner.The host was very nice and tried to help us to a place where we will have a wonderful time and enjoy dinner.She was very nice and very helpful.The L'Aromate is a beautiful restaurant with a full bar.The place specializes in Tartar dishes.The menu is nice and have nice choices, but limited to special items.

Upon entering Bistro L'Aromate, we were met with loud music in the bar area, and desiring a quiet dinner, requested a table upstairs. The music was not as loud there, but still louder than I would have liked. We tried the roasted salmon, carrot & hummus soup, and fish & chips. Portion sizes were modest. The food was good. Most of the many items on the menu were a bit pricey, but that is to be expected for a nicer restaurant like this in the downtown area. People eating here tended to dress more formally.

Nothing to say against the food, it was very good. We had 2 different tartar (salmon and wagyu beef). Nice presentation and great food.Our only issue was that they could have turned on the A/C because it was very hot and humid inside preventing us from fully enjoying the quality of the food
El lugar es pequeño, pero se disfruta de una buena comida, con calidad de alimentos. El servicio es excelente por parte del personal. Esta en la parte baja del hotel en el que nos hospedamos por lo que facilita el desayuno antes de salir a pasear.

Un muy bonito restaurante, no muy amplio pero con un ambiente muy agradable. La atencion es excelente y el menu aunque es reducido ofrece platillos exquisitos presentados de una forma agradable y con un sabor exquisito.
