Fathers Day 2019 was a chance to try a new restaurant outside my comfort zone. First, this location is a renovated hotel in a tough part of downtown with some shady areas; go downstairs to the restrooms, and you'll see what I mean. Two, this place is so unique in LA, that they did filming last week, with guns and blanks; pretty neat! Third, I had no idea of what the food would taste like, being so new and off the beaten path. Well, I'm happy to say I enjoyed my day with family, and this particular restaurant was the icing on the cake. Meat and pasta are the particulars served and a great job at that. Mind you, there is no specific cuisine to mention of, or a technique or signature dish, but...
I was a little disappointed by our experience at Blacksmiths it wasn’t bad, but for the money I spent and the price of the dishes, I would hope for an elevated experience, which this wasn’t. I left feeling it wasn’t worth the money. Don’t get me wrong the food was good and the cocktails were great (but $16, be warned! but all the elements together just don’t add up to the price of the check, in my opinion. The servers were friendly enough, if a little slow, but for those prices, I’d expect them to really care and have a bit more personality, and to really know the menu inside out. This place is perfect. From the ambiance, to the food, the drinks and even the parking set up. There are two structures literally right next to the restaurant. One is an open lot and the other is a structure. Both under 400 feet from the restaurant. If you’re an LA native you know this plays a big role in whether or not you actually go somewhere. “Never say die” is hands down the best bourbon drink I’ve had. My boyfriend got the **** Mary and that was yummy too. Overall their drink menu was impressive. The table ordered the Brie pancakes, short rib Benedict, chilaquiles, chorizo hash, and french toast. 3.5 Stars...It is an improvement over the previous restaurant at this location, The Must, but I'm not overly impressed by it. Our order is as follows: 1) Heirloom Tomato Salad decent salad but nothing compared to the Heirloom tomato salad at Akasha in Culver 2) Grilled Octopus Best dish of the night but the purple accents had little to not flavor 3) Ravioli decent enough ravioli, but nothing noteworthy 4) BBQ Ribs enjoyable ribs, but pretty standard issue. I had a great dinner at Blacksmith. The food was mostly excellent, and the service was good. However, one issue we encountered was that our main entrées arrived before our salad, which is why I'm giving it four out of five stars. Overall, I would definitely choose to dine here again; many of the dishes were very well prepared. The staff was friendly and helpful, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant. I highly recommend trying the short rib gnocchi, braised short ribs, cheese fritters, and bread pudding.
the hash-browns were so oily and muddy from the oil in which they drowned it and the speck was 95% fat. the rührei was the best at the whole meal. the waitress was a bit cold and just gave us the bill while we eat without a statement, then back while we still ask if we paid them. I think she ended her shift, which is completely understandable when she just said that.
I absolutely loved this restaurant! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was decent, although our waitress disappeared a few times, and my second course arrived before my first, which was a bit unusual. It's a busy place with great music and drinks. I would definitely return, though patience is key here!
You really need to appreciate a room with a bathtub. One of the things I loved the most was that the window opens. However, you do have to pay a resort fee. The bed was quite comfortable. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect to the fire bar because there were no available outlets. Luckily, we found metered parking nearby. Réservez une table maintenant
