Brasserie Blanc has a great reputation, and for good reason! Always a bit hesitant to go because of the price-tag, my pal and I decided to go here for their pre-theatre set-dinner. 3 courses wine £19...sold! For my starter, I had a Chorizo and Potato salad, which was delicious and very unique. My main course was a Haddock Risotto, which was perfectly creamy and savory. My dessert was a Chocolate Pudding, which was more like a chocolate lava cake. All of the dishes where fairly large portions, contrary to what I had heard about this place before. The menu has, as one would expect, all the elements of the traditional French brasserie with crudites (seen here as Maman Blanc’s miscellany of salads) and Burgundian snails. But there are twists with, for example, an Avocado, Tomato and Greek Yogurt Salad. Annie and I were in full-guns mode though and opted to share the Selection Board – guinea fowl rilettes, milano salami, seared mackerel, apple and pear chutney, cucumber creme fraiche, carrot vinaigrette and celeriac remoulade. Yes, that was quite a starter but we were sharing remember. Though I have to say it was a pretty huge platter of food that I would have been happy to share by itself at lunchtime.

Once our table’s ready, we’re shown out to the roof terrace and into the warm evening air. We order from the a la carte Summer Menu. Our group’s hors d’oeuvres include deep fried goat’s cheese starter – with tomato chutney, frisee bean salad £7.80; cucumber gaspacho soup – with lemon crème fraîche, cucumber dill £5.90; pork rillettes starter – with cornichons sourdough £7.50...

I had higher hopes for this place. I had looked online at the Sunday roast menu in hope to have a nice homely rustic Sunday dinner. The scallops we had for starter were most definitely 10/10, best part of the meal. The roast was good but for a good restaurant I expected more. The view was also quite nice though!
