This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Adelaide when it comes to food, customer service and overall value for money. The fact that cricket players from India choose to eat here when they play in Adelaide surely proves the authenticity of the food. My friends, family and I will always consider coming here when we want to celebrate special occasions with a lovely meal. The venue is cosy, the flavours are authentic, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Unlike many other restaurants, the British Raj does not sting customers with a surcharge for BYO cake. This may be a small touch but it is highly appreciated in the current times when the rising cost of living forces people to cut...
We booked to celebrate two family birthdays, and all went smoothly in the cosy room at the back of the restaurant. Two of our party had eaten here before and particularly recommended the beef dishes for tenderness. As we had a couple of vegetarians around the table, plus devotees of tandoor dishes, we ordered a wide range of foods for entrees and mains. In a very rare display of consummate hospitality, our entrees were served, and only when everything was cleared away, the waitress checked when we were ready to receive our main meals. The food was not bad for my Indian taste buds. The service was also reasonable. The attitude of 2 employees was terrible. They looked at us in a strange fashion seeing us eat with our hands. I am sure this is how they would eat at home. I asked the lady at the counter while checking out if they had "somp" ( sugar coated fennnel) which is something commonly given at the end of your meal. In very few words the answer was no. I said that it's commonly served in a suggestive tone. She did not even care to reply. How rude!!!! The attitude of the male counterpart was equally bad. I have always heard good reviews about British Raj's food. We stay in Torrensville and have always seen this place filled with few tables and not at all packed. On a Monday night, we walked in there with our friends and the waiting staff was not at all welcoming. The bar manager straightaway refused us for a 4 seater table. The restaurant was busy but not full. We could see few empty tables for 2 and 3 seats. We even requested them to adjust the chairs , but the manager bluntly refused. If they would have been a little more considerate and adjusting this could have been a 3 star or 4 star experience. I am not sure if I ever will go there!! This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Adelaide. The place was buzzing on a Friday night when our group of 8 arrived for a birthday dinner. We all opted for a banquet style dinner and were served 8 regular-sized entrees and mains, complemented by naans and rice - more than enough to go round. (We are wary of some places where banquet style means smaller than usual servings.)Seafood is always good here, especially the prawns. Beef and lamb are also very tasty, though they can sometimes be not as tender as one expects.The mango lassi is also very good. Creamy, not too sweet and very mango-ish.
We went to the British Raj for Friday lunch and ordered samosas and one main each to share . The portions were extremely generous and absolutely delicious . We had to ask for a doggy bag and still had enough for two meals after we got home but it was not so much the quantity as the quality ( mouth-watering ) Absolutely unreservedly recommend it . Decor a bit jaded but everything else magnificent
Having provided the. chef with 24 hours notice of Our arrival we were greeted with the most amazing food experience. The authenticity ofFlavours was exceptional and the dish selection was truly inspiring. There's incredible and deep. Passion on show here at British Raj and I cannot recommend theses Guys any higher. Being a local here, i come here every few months. I admit i haven't been to too many other Indian places as i always end up knowing the food i am going to be served! Great service for eating in and/or take away, so friendly and efficient. Butter Chicken; you cannot go wrong along with a side of Paneer Manchurian for some spice in your life. Amazing! Hands down the spot for authentic Indian food in Mile End. Every single curry on the menu has been a smash hit. Personal favourite is the Daal & Veg Korma. Traditional Indian decor that matches the quality of food. 9/10 Hot Tip - Meal for one special @ $20 Extra point for large servings and fresh ingredients.
