Stopped in for lunch in this average village pub, we were shown through to the restaurant which was extremely cold as it was devoid of customers and I think the heating was off for this reason. I ordered a coffee whilst deciding what to have and a glass cup with brown liquid was served minus a spoon which I was told was an Americano, I don't know what it was but it certainly wasn't an Americano, so that was sent back and a replacement was not required. The staff seemed to be under a lot of pressure and no one seemed to be in charge. Even didn’t know what the soup of the day was and had to go back and ask. Apparently that was the only special even though they advertised that there was specials on that day. Two of us waited an hour and a half to eat and they had to change it cause they were wrong. Having to opt for burgers for Sunday dinner was not my plan but because everything we wanted was finished two of us had to do that. No roast dinners on menu. Went as a family for a Sunday dinner. The roast dinner was not what I expected. The roast beef was on the dry side, the roast potatoes were like out of a freezer as was the 1 parsnip that was on the plate. The Yorkshire pudding seemed like it was also out of the freezer, a few vegetables scattered along with a small amount of stuffing. It wasn’t that bad as to send back but certainly not a treat as I expected from a chef. The New Yorker was described as hunters chicken by Son, edible but again nothing special . Went in for supper just before 7pm on Saturday night, were asked if had booked a table which we hadn’t but being just the two of us and place empty didn’t think would be a problem however was told would need to check with kitchen first! Wasn’t sure if they had stopped serving! Anyway got a table. Both of us asked for half portions (as stated available on menu) Meal was nice. Went to pay charged full price despite asking for half portions! Was told get standard size portion and they just give bit less chips! Never experienced that before! Not one negative here. Firstly and most importantly, the food was outstanding. The service was nothing less either. We had salt pepper chicken, haggis Bon Bon’s and chicken fillets to kick off. All were cracking and delicious. Main courses were fish chips. 8oz steak burger and creamy Cajun chicken. Absolutely brilliant. Only one slight criticism is the burger patty was a tiny bit dry but I put that down to being 100% steak. Needs a bit of fat. Nothing to do with the cooking or good quality, just personal taste. Visited on a Thursday evening, they have a great value menu on with 2 courses for £10. I had garlic bread and chicken fillets, my husband haggis bon bons and a chilli bowl. Food was really good. They didn’t have the dessert I wanted otherwise we would have gone for 3 courses. Nice treat on a Thursday!
Thought I would give this place one last chance as he food is nice but like every time we are here the service is appalling. Waited over an hour for food again, which on this occasion wasn't even worth the wait. Even ordering a drink was a challenge on this occasion. This was my last ever visit.
Excellent menu choice, lovely food, lovely staff and nice relaxed atomsphere , food was great highly recommend Smokey Culsh starter, haggis fritters, Steak was cooked as required, highly recommend a visit

We came here as a family of 4 and everyone really enjoyed their meal. Cosy atmosphere and nice service. Will be coming here regularly after moving to the town!
