It was worth the train ride from Zurich to Rappersvil about an hour) for the hot chocolate and a variety of croissants, cinnamon rolls, apple strudel etc. The cafe is on the road from Rappersvil Train Station, just to Macdonald. If you move to the golden sign, it's over there. Not only the hot chocolate warmed us physically, our hearts were warmed up by the friendliness of the locals with their cuppa there. We stopped at Rapperswil before our return by ferry to Zurich and enjoyed a pleasant Sunday luncheon at this venue.This venue does look unassuming from the courtyard outside but can cater efficiently for a large number of people inside and alfresco. The number of local people enjoying Sunday lunch there was testament to the quality of the food and service at this venue. The restaurant had very few empty tables.We were time conscious but the service was excellent to meet our needs with a delicious meal. Our guide for the day suggested that our group stop here for lunch; that they provided fast service and that it was reasonable at least for Switzerland. The place was quite busy when we arrived, so not all that fast, and while not what I...would call reasonable pricing for lunch, it was after all in Switzerland. Fortunately we were brought English menus, and while we still needed a helping hand as to what we were actually ordering, in the end, the food was tasty and enjoyable.
Visiting Rapperswil on a Sunday we stopped for afternoon tea at this delightful cafe. The little cakes were very light and tasty and far better than those in the expensive Zurich cafes! It was relaxing to sit outside at a little table, sip coffee and...watch people pass by. There is a glass display case, to choose whatever catches you eye. We were on a tour to Heidiiland and we kept in the picture perfect, beautiful city Rapperswil and our guide recommended to try the cheese cake,,, when in Switzerland... why not? It was delicious. Like a 3 cheese pizza, but better, with a little crunchy ground. The very friendly server had warmed it for me, we had it to go and it was amazing. It was about 6 francs and was very full and definitely worth trying. Yum!
You will never taste anything so good as the cheesecake at Rosenstadter. We each had a different type, cheese, fondue, and onion, but the consensus was that the fondue was best. We ordered a full pie to go and they were sold out of fondue for the day by 1! We got a plain cheese and it travelled well.
