We came here because I wanted something different to the usual tourist traps. I'll be honest that when we arrived, we nearly turned around and went back to Bournemouth, but I'm glad we didn't. It's a neighbourhood café/restaurant, in a not particularly good looking part...of Boscombe, but good places to eat and drink are always more than just how beautiful the decor or location are. Even the food doesn't need to be gourmet, as it's about the whole experience. When which we arrived there were a couple of big tables of Portuguese families and friends eating and drinking, a good sign in my experience. We had a whole chorizo and garlic bread to start, me, salt cod and cream with potatoes, my other half a steak with plantain, cassava chips, rice and black beans with chorizo, and my son, fried chicken and very good chips. We finished it off with a couple of pastel de natas and a freshly cooked custard roll. We drank a really lovely Portuguese rosé, and on the recommendation of our Portuguese neighbour, had an Amêndoa Amarga each (with a squeeze of lemon). I had an espresso on the house (Portuguese espresso is very often the best in my experience. It was just a very friendly place, work attentive staff, who loved the fact that we loved their food. I'm not sure when we'll be back in Bournemouth, but if or when we are, we'll be back!
first visit tonight in a restaurant that has been on our doorstep for 4 years. oh my what have we missed? fantastic eating, ridiculously low trips with consumption service. I always tell such restaurants about the quantity English spoken by the customers. we were the only ones. all others were Portuguese and Spanish redners. If it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for us. the starters are fantastic, we had cod meat cake, garnel, chorizo and calamari. all cooked to perfection. probably needed nothing else, but I had the tomahawk pork with a fantastic pork and chorizo side with salat and my partner had the lamb with chips and salat. we can't do it. but it was nice. the Portuguese wine was a perfect companion and very reasonable. I also had a sagr beer that was perfectly cooled. the whole bill came to just £60. absolute bargain. trip Advisor reviews brought us here and we hope ours will encourage them.
we went to this caffe regularly before we locked off and we returned to the full breakfast today. Unfortunately it wasn't great. the sausages were unusable and the mushrooms were cooked in deep fat frit. I know it's cheap expensive, but I... I couldn't eat it, it tasted like my dog didn't eat it. the mushrooms tasted from a deep fat frit..sorry put the prices just a tad and bring a bit better quality, it will pay dividends. I went to boscanowa some days earlier on the road and although they are quite expensive, at least I ate everything! I know this place is for sale, but they can get more customers with a little better quality, but perhaps the owners just gave up and want to extract every penny from this place before they sell.
I've been here for some time and never got disappointed. beautiful sagres beer Portuguese import in a very reasonable £3,40, with a large beer garden from the back. have tried a series of directed from the menu and all were exquisite. in taste, very generous portions too very favorable praises. the employees are always happy to see them, very friendly and attentive, and a great atmosphere in general. they would be recommended for all located and one if they live in boscombe!
