While driving from Deauville to Amboise we took a side trip by car and wound up in Argentan on a Sunday afternoon. Virtually everything in the entire town was closed down, but the town is a very typical small French city with nice architecture, a city square and a big church plus the Cafe de la Paix was open. This is an informal place, perhaps family owned. There are seats inside and out. We had such things as hamburgers, eggs and french fries. All the portions were huge, and everything was good. C'est la meilleure cuisine française mais pour le prix, je pense que c'est difficile à battre. Le service était un peu étrange car le propriétaire (je suppose) semblait un peu épuisé par la cohue. Le service était rapide et chaud. Aucun problème avec le repas. Comme je l'ai dit dans le titre, le prix est correct.
Yes it was a Monday and one of few eateries open so quite busy but found the service awful. Food was nothing to shout about from a limited menu. Popular with locals who knew the staff and appeared to be treated much better. In 30 years of French travel I don't think I have come across anywhere quire like his.
