We were recommended to go here for lunch by the delightful camp site manager in Vermenton. Vermenton, is small, but wonderfully and delightfully French. This brasserie was an unexpected treat. From the complimentary kir from Monsieur on arrival, to the last delicious mouthful of dessert, it was all wonderful. The food, is cooked, by Madame, to order and the menu de jour, although wonderfully simple offered something for all tastes and all pockets. The portions are ample! Take an appetite with you. We had the Menu de Jour and we struggled to finish our dessert. The demi- pichet of Vin de Maison helped!! As my title says, small town, big surprise and a very welcome one. Forget the town of Chablis with the restaurants pour Les Anglais.. this place is true France and the food is French and it is tres bon! Passing this way.. seek it out!
My wife and I had lunch whist moored on the canal. There is a reason this is highly rated; because it is sooo good! We shared a salade chèvre chaud (goat cheese on toast over salad greens) and we each had the joue de pore confite (marinated pork roast with greens and fries. Of course, a half carafe of local wine was necessary! My wife states this was one of the best, if not the best meals we have had on the Nivernais Canal, and I agree.
