After speaking with the owner, I learned that she recently purchased Cafe Metropole. I often visit Avalon and it is clear that she has improved this establishment. There are several vegan choices available, and she and her staff are very informed and accommodating when it comes to dietary restrictions. Without prompting, she shared their measures to minimize cross-contamination. They now offer an avocado toast breakfast and excellent cold-pressed juices and shots. I suggest trying their vegetarian panini for lunch.
Good, and real, vegetarian options. Not just we 'll take off the meat ones. I had the Italian Sandwich (grilled veggies) and it was quite good. Fries were average. However, the service was terrible. We were seated, he brought me tea, and then forgot about us. Finally came to take the order, and disappeared. At the end they cleared the table, of everything including the condiment set up that had been there, and never brought our check. So, four stars for the food and food options, two stars for the service.
Very veggie friendly with fresh produce and a gluten free fryer for sweet potato fries. Menu is small and mainly sandwiches and salads but has all the staples for a good veggie panini or sandwich. (Gluten free bread is available) We walked around for ages before we found this little cafe (Avalon sucks for vegetarians) and we were delighted with the place. If you are in Avalon, do yourself a favor and head there and save yourself a lot of time looking at everyone elses menus.
I'm here in Catalina for just the day and didn't prepare any food. I hopped on here and saw that this place has felafel's and I was like ohhhh yeah. I soon as I ordered, the cashier notice I was only getting vegan options and stopped me to ask if I was a vegan because the white flat bread has whey in it. I knew I was in the right place. It was a great felafel! (BEWARE PICTURED FELAFEL ABOVE IS WITH THE WHITE FLAT BREAD AND THEREFORE NOT VEGAN! Réservez une table maintenant
We ordered the veggie burger without cheese, avocado toast (my favorite!), and stuffed chickpea avocado. This is my go-to place for a delicious vegan meal in Avalon, as they do it exceptionally well. Additionally, they make fresh orange juice for the most delicious mimosa! While none of the salads are vegan, they can be customized, and they offer chickpeas as a protein option.
Saw this place listed on HappyCow when I was planning my trip to Catalina a few weeks back. Ate here and enjoyed it. Our server was very accommodating to veggie inquiries requests. Both the roasted vegetable plate and the falafels were delicious, and the lemonade was good, too. A good place to get veggie food when in Avalon Catalina.
Avalon does not have the normal vegan spread that LA prides but Cafe Metropole was the only place that had any vegan/veggie options on their menu in the area. Decent sandwich and excellent cold pressed juice. Very pricey but all that I could find!! Updated from previous review on 2022-07-04
