As a family we used to frequent La Via in years gone by. Seven of us returned recently for our daughter's birthday celebration & found that it had changed management. We brought a few bottles of wine but were told that this was a licenced premises. Number 1 rule - allow BYO wine only with corkage fee. There was an extensive wine list - way over the top for this type of establishment, the cheapest being about $40. No house wines on the list. The second issue was the food - not that great for the price. A couple of the main dishes looked like entrée size. The quality was certainly inferior to what we were used to in the past. The place was not even half full on a Friday night, unlike when we us...

Accidentally stumbled across this gem in Malvern. Has a beautiful indoor area but we opted to sit outside and enjoy the sun. The service was prompt and unpretentious, the waiter has a wonderful sense of humour and displayed professionalism and efficiency. We ordered a simple meal of nachos and wedges and both were respectfully cooked and presented. My long black coffee had tones of caramel and because of this I managed a second long black. The smoothness was consistent as my first one and I felt I could go a third coffee but it was time to leave and hence shall return for another experience in due course. Experience La Via and you will enjoy.
Went with another couple for an early dinner (6.00 pm). The staff were very welcoming and obliging bringing water to the table almost as soon as we sat down. The food was great with very generous servings. I had the chicken souvlaki and my wife had a smoked salmon Caeser salad. By the time we had finished our main courses it was still quite early in the evening and we asked if we could delay ordering deserts. Again the staff were very friendly and obliging. The deserts were also delicious and generous in size. The only downside of the evening was the toilet facilities. Pretty basic and not overly sparkling.Would we go there again? Yes.
We have visited on a number of occasions lately with our very elderly mother and have found the staff extremely polite and helpful - assisting with mobility equipment, organising seating and so on, also offering child sized portions and being very attentive. The roast veg quinoa salad is very good and fish and chips spot on! Excellent chips! Conveniently open for early dinner or late lunch as does not close mid afternoon like most cafes. Had just come back from a long flight and stopped on the way home at this place to pick up a sandwich. Picked up a chicken breast sandwich along with a Warm Chicken salad. The salad was really good and fresh but the sandwich blew my mind. Their peri mayo was out of the world. Loved sitting at the back in the secretive open place!
Extremely rude manager/owner who needs to do Customer Service 101. I felt sorry for the staff that work for him. There are many superior options in Glenferrie Rd, Malvern and High Street, Armadale, where the quality of the food and service is superb. Do yourself a favour and frequent any cafe or restaurant other than La Via.
Great selection of food and big menu. Massive portions for a decent price and great service. They also have the biggest burger I have ever seen called the Wolfer. The Wolfer has 2 wagyu patties inside it and extra cheese. Great meal.
Kids liked their pancakes with maple syrup & ice creamWife's poached eggs were runny and holondaise sauce was home made came with lashings of bacon. Réservez une table maintenant
