We had a wonderful lunch break here as part of a long day's hike. Not a word of English was spoken but we muddled through with the help of lots of smiles, pointing and contributions from some of the other lunch guests who were all locals always a good sign. I had grilled fresh asparagus with a delicious tomato and red pepper side sauce followed by grilled rabbit and chips. My husband had a baby broad bean and mixed salad followed by cod in a creamy tomato sauce. We shared a creme catalan.Together with coffees a beer and wine the bill came to 28 euros. There was a cheaper menu of the day but we didn't try it though it seemed to be going down well with the regulars.
My wife and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Can Font in Hostalets de Bas. This out of the way restaurant in one of two surprising finds in this little village just about 90 minutes from Barcelona. The food was local and fresh and nicely prepared and accompanied by the very nice house wine. Service was friendly and welcoming and the price was very reasonable. Definitely worth a visit if you are doing a day trip to Girona and feel like exploring the hill country on your way back to Barcelona.
