I would have given this lovely cafe a 5-star rating, but I have only rated it 4 stars because we only stopped in for coffee. The cafe is small and does not have a menu displayed in the window, which made it difficult for us to decide if we wanted to eat there for lunch during our visit to Penclawdd. We didn't want to take the chance of walking in, not liking the options, and leaving, so we ended up having lunch elsewhere. Later on, we decided to come back for coffee and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. Even though we were initially hesitant to enter, now that we know the quality and pricing of the food, we will likely return for lunch on our next visit. It would be helpful...
Disappointing visit to this quiet cafe . I put our breakfast order in and after 15 mins , just before my husband breakfast arrived a waitress came over to say they were out of avocado. Why did it take that long to look in the fridge ! Anyway i had to quickly think of something else as they'd brought out my husband breakfast. (Which had snotty eggs and unpleasant beans) So I had an poached egg instead of Avocado. Would have liked to have been warned sooner to have more time to decide. They did not offer a refund as there was a difference in the price . I didn't say anything as wanted to see if the waitress would rectify. But they didn't. Staff very downcast and not that cheerful. I stopped by for breakfast on a rainy, cold morning. The interior was quite simple compared to other charming coffee shops and cafes, and it was a bit chilly inside. Despite the lack of customers, no one greeted us. I placed my order with two young girls at the register who seemed nervous and had to repeat my order multiple times while they chatted with each other. The food was delicious and the coffee was very hot. The spacious toilets were spotless. The staff appeared disinterested and could benefit from greeting customers with a smile.
The restaurant was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent, especially the themed dish of cooked ham, egg, salad, and chips. We also enjoyed two pots of tea. The total bill came to £24, which was a great value for the quality of the meal. I highly recommend this restaurant for a lunch outing. Absolutely STUNNING breakfast, the best I 've had for as long as I can remember. If you 're in the area, go here for breakfast! I had the 'Cariad ' with added tomatoes. My partner had a sausage and bacon baguette and thoroughly enjoyed it too.
