Hygiene and sanitation do not exist in Carmen’s Lobster Pool ? I decided to leave a review after I witnessed MULTIPLE waitresses sticking their fingers in customers food. Apparently this is the way Carmen’s makes sure your meal is still hot ?The kitchen crew (95% of them) does NOT wash their hands at all. Not when they clock in, not during their shift, and never while cleaning at the end of the evening. They sweep and mop the floor, and then go straight to making your cheeseburger without washing hands in between.The owner is not afraid of using food items that fell on the floor. The experience was mediocre. For a while, there was no waitress service; instead, a lovely woman named Kathy, who was clearing tables, took our order and kept apologizing for the wait. She was very kind, so I left her a tip since she stepped up and did her job. Once the waitress got off the phone, she came over to tell us our order was in, but after waiting another half hour, we were informed that they had forgotten to turn on the fryers. Four years later, same issues. Made even worse by zero accountability. Came with family during the week for breakfast. Not very crowded, but our waitress was MIA most of the meal. The food took what felt like ages. Our biggest issue, however, was with my nephew's drink. Upon almost finishing it, he realized there were a bunch of ants in it...6-8 of them. He's a kid and didn't make a big deal, and we wouldn't have either, except that our waitress did not even take the drink off of the bill after we told her. I should have anticipated a disappointing experience when the waitress served stale, grocery store Italian bread. Next came a lackluster iceberg lettuce salad that left much to be desired. For my appetizer, I ordered the steamed clams, followed by lobster ravioli as my main course. While the clams appeared fresh, they were so excessively salty that I struggled to enjoy them. When I mentioned this to the hostess, she insisted that no salt was added, but she was willing to waive the charge. The lobster ravioli, unfortunately, was smothered in a heavy, overly tomato-based sauce that completely overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the lobster. I hadn't been in many many years but had a chance to return tonight while on a vacation with my family and another family. I was nervous given recent reviews but I'm so glad we didn't get scared away. We were seated right away (with reservations) and our waitress Bri took great care of us. All of us really enjoyed our meals including appetizers, main courses, and desserts. The portions are very generous. BYOB was a nice touch, too. The location was great, valet was very convenient, and everyone was friendly and helpful. Not sure why it took us so long to visit Carmen's! We both enjoyed the broiled fisherman's platter offering fresh caught flounder, shrimp, scallops and lobster tail. Everything came out hot and delicious. Also enjoyed the Manhattan clam chowder and side of Angel hair pasta topped with fresh made sauce that we were told 93 year old Carmen makes daily. Less memorable was the crabmeat cocktail and other sides we chose. Desserts are not to be missed! All homemade. We enjoyed coconut custard pie and carrot cake. Extra bonus points for valet parking on fish alley where spots are always so difficult to find. We'll be back!!
We didn't have the best experience here. Wait staff is nice but the place didn't seem to run that well. Could be they're having staffing problems like everyone else post-pandemic. We ordered chicken tenders for our son that came out raw. Corn was missing from my meal and never came. Salads are clearly prepared en masse and then refrigerated until given out to each table. They were good about the specific issues we had but it's off putting. I'd give them another chance but for the money it's not a place I'd be looking to go back to.
This restaurant falls short in several areas. A thorough review of the existing feedback reveals consistent issues that are quite accurate. every year my extended family and i go 20+ people) here during the summer and the service is amazing. the seafood here is amazing along with all their other food. I remember coming here as a kid and having a great time playing in a sandbox they had. I recommend lobster, crab, and chicken parm.
