I came across this hotel-restaurant by accident! The only sign is 500metres from the hotel saying it is open everyday! It is set back from the main road and looks old fashioned and forbidding. But once inside, it is a 1960's atmosphere and the food is plain but good. Because it is owned by the Club Vosgien (a ramblers association) it is open every day of the year but little money is spent on modernising the environment. That is the charm of the place! The manager is a great guy to talk to and both him and his wife have run this low key type of business for over 30 years. Fussy about the place, maybe, but the alternative is at least an hour away in the winter. It's warm, it has hot drinks and it's friendly, what more do you want on a cold winter's day!!? I did not try or check out the accomodation
We received a slightly off-hand reception, though the small staff were very busy preparing for what was to be a very busy lunch time. Our room was of adequate size but was made very cramped by the presence of a third bed. The bathroom was generally adequate but the toilet seat would not stay up and the grout between the tiles in the shower recess was very mouldy. There was no room servicing. There was a comfortable guest lounge which we utilised while waiting for our room to be readied. Meals were quite good and suitable for the walkers' hostel atmosphere of the place. This stay was day 21 of our 25 day trek through Les Vosges. On the previous night we stayed at Hotel Resaurant Wolf at Le Markstein which is not recommended. This is a chalet in a mountainous region, staffed by members of the Club Vosgien of Strasbourg! It's cheap and it's old, but those who wanted more than this very basic (but correct) accommodation, should head for anything in the valleys. Enjoy basic life in the mountains!!! I've joined the meals served here, always good in terms of qualité and quantité. The staff is particularly friendly and helpful! Don't forget that the Club Vosgien and their members are working (on a voluntary base) for your active holiday in the French Vosges! recommended for those with the spirit of a natural lifestyle!
Nous avons dégusté une Tarte Flambée suivie d'un délicieux gâteau à l'abricot au restaurant. Magnifiquement cuisiné/cuit et service satisfaisant. Beaucoup d'abeilles de mouches à l'intérieur étaient un peu dérangeantes, de même qu'une restauration en cours qui rendait l'environnement désordonné. Cependant, dans l'ensemble, une belle expérience. Magnifique paysage.
