2001 Avis 4.1

"I think we may have been quite lucky to get an amazing room, with our own sun terrace overlooking the courtyard, but nevertheless, this place is truly stunning. Lovely pool, excellent food and really lovely modern rooms. Hiring bikes made for a great roam around the countryside. Definitely worth a visit"

There are few things better than enjoying the riches of a rest and restoration at a château in S outh of France. Even more enjoyable in the winter season when they have fewer guests and very good prices. Even if there were slightly reduced service opportunities . This beautiful castle and gardens in the vineyards of Uchaux between Avignon and Orange was where we spent 2 weekend nights in December. Our room was a junior suite with a strange toilet and even stranger walk in shower but otherwise superb. Our greeting introduced us to a very accommodating staff who organized our gourmet dinner reservations, which wineries were available for tasting, reservations at fabulous Cote Sud Restaurant in the Uchaux village for Sunday night (Chef founder at Massillan off on Sunday Dinners). The staff also arranged spa services at it fabulous addendum facility. Massages and scrubs, whirlpools, saunas and fitness rooms are all available upon appointment. Dinner by founder bio chef was an experience of well prepared, tasty delectable of the season. Foie Gras starter, Coquille St Jacque, Wild Boar and organic winter vegetables from their large garden. The grounds too are spectacular. Many people seem to come for the Saturday night meal and spend one night In the crisp country air. Château Massillan is a great refuge from the daily life or a brilliant stop on a journey to Provence! Don't miss it!

Terrible. They impose a blind menu with some ingredients from a list. We said we didn't like bulots and they served us bulots! We chose the 5-course menu but the difference with the 4-course dinner was 20€ for a risotto with bland summer truffle grated half over the bowl, half over the table. The waiter couldn't even explain the difference with black truffle. All the dishes were much too salty. The cook takes the guests of the hotel for pigeons. The 4th dish, the pre dessert was the size of the thumb, made of a tiny piece of ananas, passion fruit sorbet and micro puffed pastry. A shame! Don't go there ! It's sham gourmet restaurant.

This is an extradinary location in Uchaux with a very nice room but this is where the good news stops, our arrival (and this is an understatement) not very personal, at two occasions we wanted to book a table (lunch and diner) and we were asked to visit the restaurants in the surroundings because they were understaffed...so take this into account when you come here

Plated like a Michelin restaurant, with elements to the meal to elevate it, like amuse bouches, hors d'oeuvres and petit fours. A stunning restaurant with views over the lake where at dinner time, you can watch the sun set. The restaurant was filled with an orange glow as we drunk champagne. Just perfect.
